NAWBO Iowa Launches Second Year of Business Institute

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 13, 2021) — The National Association of Women Business Owners  (NAWBO) Iowa is launching the second year of its Business Institute in October, uniquely designed for women business owners in Iowa who own an established business that has not yet reached $1 million in revenue, but who fall into what's considered the “missing middle.”

Iowa Shatters Record for Most New Business-Filings in One Year

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 12, 2021) — Secretary of State Paul Pate announces Iowans registered the highest amount of new business entities in state history during the 2021 fiscal year. 33,260 new businesses registered with the Secretary of State’s Office between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021.

Iowa Business Council (IBC) Projects Positive Six-Month Economic Outlook

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 8, 2021) — The Iowa Business Council (IBC) has released its second-quarter Economic Outlook Survey for 2021. The report measures member expectations for sales, capital spending and employment for the next six months. If the index measures above fifty, sentiment is positive. The second-quarter survey's overall economic outlook index is 67.08.

United Way Quad Cities Announces Deere’s Mara Downing as New Board Chair

BETTENDORF, IOWA (July 8, 2021) — United Way Quad Cities has named Mara Downing, vice president of global brand and communications, John Deere, as its new Board of Directors chair.

A native of the Quad Cities, Downing has served on the board since 2018, and, as a 2020 Community Campaign Tri-Chair, helped raise $7,133,520, which surpassed the 2019 total.

Iowans’ Unemployment and Injury Benefits Increase

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 1, 2021) — Iowa Workforce Development has announced there will be an increase to the amount of maximum weekly benefits paid to unemployed Iowans and to workers injured on the job beginning July 4, 2021. A statutorily-required annual review of wages covered by unemployment insurance has triggered the increase. The average annual wage for insured Iowa workers increased to $52,130.71 in 2020, up from $48,455.86 in 2019.

Four Iowa Credit Unions Awarded $1.826 Million Each in Federal Grant Funding to Support Economic Recovery

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 18, 2021) — Four Iowa credit unions designated as Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) received $1.826 million respectively from the US Department of Treasury through the Treasury’s CDFI Rapid Response Program (CDFI RRP). The funding provides capital for CDFIs to respond to economic challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in underserved communities.
