Davenport CSD Sustainability Efforts Win State Award

New Study Addresses Economic Impact of Closing Coal-Fueled Power Plants in Iowa

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 7, 2021) — Coal-fueled power-plant jobs and spending are on the decline in Iowa, tied largely to shifts in the economics of renewable energy. The transition away from coal-fueled electric generation presents significant but manageable challenges to the seven communities where coal-fueled power plants are located, according to a new Iowa State University study.

ILLINOIS CITY, ILLINOIS (May 27, 2021) — Boat rentals on Lake George at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve are opening for the first time this season on Friday, May 26, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. From canoes and kayaks to jon boats and pontoons, Loud Thunder Forest Preserve offers a wide variety of boats to choose from. Rentals are offered Wednesday through Sunday, 8AM-7PM, with the last rental to go out at 6PM.
