DES MOINES, IOWA (March 11, 2022) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announces the annual National Change of Address process to update and maintain Iowa’s voter-registration records is underway. Notices to 123,634 registered voters were sent recently to Iowans who have filed a change of address with the US Postal Service.

Voters that receive these cards in the mail should indicate if the new address is incorrect and quickly return the card to the county auditor’s office.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 7, 2022) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is a finalist for a prestigious award from the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) based upon his initiative to improve voter-access for Iowans with disabilities. Sec Pate collaborated with Disability Rights Iowa to produce the Voting Accessibility Quick Check Guide and distribute one to every polling place in the state.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 3, 2022) — Governor Kim Reynolds today signed HF2416 into law protecting girls’ sports programs at all school levels, including high-school and collegiate levels in Iowa. The bill allows participation in sports based upon the biological sex listed on the athlete’s birth certificate.

DES MOINES, IOWA (February 28, 2022) — The candidate filing period for state and federal offices in the 2022 primary and general elections began Monday, February 28, and runs through Friday, March 18, 5PM. Candidates must file their nominating petitions and affidavits of candidacy with the Office of Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate, either in the Capitol Building or in the Lucas Office Building.

DES MOINES, IOWA (February 25, 2022) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announces 34 State Senate seats will be up for election in Iowa this year. During most general elections, 25 of the 50 seats are on the ballot. However, due to redistricting, nine more seats will be decided in 2022.

The winners of these nine seats will serve two-year terms. State Senate terms generally last four years.
