Davenport, IA: We all want to be happy, but how do we do this? Happiness is a State of Mind therefore we need to train our mind to develop and maintain positive states of mind in order to feel happy. Meditation is the main method for training the mind. Lamirm Kadampa Buddhist Center will present a guided Meditation Retreat in Davenport Iowa, Saturday December 6th- Thursday, December 11th. This Meditation Retreat will be based on Kadam Lamrim meditations presented in How to Understand The Mind by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
In this Meditation Retreat learn simple yet profound meditations and bring real benefit to yourself and others. There will be an introduction to the Retreat on Saturday, December 6th at 10am. Then four to six one-hour guided meditation sessions each day through Thursday, December 11th. People can attend one session, one day or the entire retreat.
"Meditation increases our peace of mind and provides practical methods to overcome negativity and to solve our daily problems," state Joe Gauthier, Resident Teacher at Lamrim Kadampa Buddhist Center, who will be guiding the Retreat. "Meditating on the virtuous objects found in Kadam Lamrim leads to a lasting state of joy, independent of external conditions.
Each Meditation session presents practical ways to keep our mind positive and energized while engaging in daily activities. During the breaks between sessions you are welcome to stay and enjoy the peaceful environment and have tea, coffee and light snacks in the community room. You may wish to bring a packed lunch/dinner. Lamrim Center is within walking distance of the Mississippi River Walk and many local eateries and a vegetarian coffee house.
