IA/IL QUAD-CITIES - "Life is an exhilarating journey. It is exciting to make new discoveries as we move forward and find new passions or re-discover passions we once had. But what is passion?"

That statement, with its compelling question, comes from Bill Davis, an instructor in Ashford University's Forbes School of Business. Davis will discuss the role of passion in life in his presentation, Passion, Purpose, and Time Management, hosted by the Idea Lab, a division of Results Marketing. The Idea Lab is dedicated to providing the Quad Cities area with unique learning opportunities.
Passion, Purpose, and Time Management will be held as a Lunch and Learn presentation from 12 to 1 p.m., Jan. 31, at the St. Ambrose Professional Development Center in the New Ventures Center, 331 W. Third St., Davenport, IA. Admission is $15 and the event will include a Chick-fil-A meal.
"Bill will tell how passion ties in with purpose and time management, creating the perfect environment for success to thrive," said Todd Ashby, Managing Partner of Results Marketing. "He has written on why passion is an important factor in reaching one's goals, and we are proud to offer his inspiring presentation as our first Idea Lab Lunch and Learn of 2014."
For more information or to register, please call Marcia Brandt at 563-322-2065 or email  Marcia@resultsimc.com. Feel free to follow the Idea Lab on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Idealabqc.

On Monday, January 20th the AmeriCorps members that are serving for the City of Davenport both in our city departments and in the schools will be participating in the MLK Day of Service.

What is the MLK Day of Service?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.  The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.

This is a great day to provide service and the AmeriCorps have come up with and an even better agency to help...  We are very excited to be hosting the 2014 MLK Day of Service - Kids Against Hunger  event at the Roosevelt Community Center on Monday, January 20th from 1-5:30 pm.  Volunteers will be joining the City of Davenport (IA) AmeriCorps members in packaging dry meals with the Kids Against Hunger - Quad Cities. These meals are sent throughout the world to states, nations and countries to feed the children and families. Our goal is to package 3000 meals to be sent out to these children and families.  The best part of this all is that anyone can do this (volunteers must be aged 5 or older to participate in this volunteer activity. Must be able to stand for a long period of time) ... we are so excited that we will be able to involve the campers from our Roosevelt school day out camp but we are still in need of volunteers for the afternoon.  We were hoping that your groups might be interested in joining us!  This event is registered on the DVC website for anyone who wants to volunteer. Click here to register, or just show up!

MOLINE, IL - Western Illinois University-Quad Cities and WQPT-Quad Cities PBS will host a Children's Literacy Drive from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20 at the WIU-Quad Cities 60th Street campus, 3561 60th St., Moline.

According to Scott Brouette, assistant director of student services at the WIU-QC campus, the drive is designed to provide additional materials for the WIU-QC/WQPT AmeriCorp program to enhance and improve the literacy skills of young children in the community.

"We are collecting children's books, construction paper, glue sticks, stickers, washable markers, puzzles, Play-Doh and blocks of all kinds," Brouette added.

The books and supplies will be donated to the Blackhawk College Family Literacy Program.

WQPT- Quad Cities PBS has been the local public television station for 30 years and  is a media service of Western Illinois University located in Moline, Illinois.

Greetings to our Community Family!

The Rock Island County NAACP Religious Affairs Committee is proud to announce that we are hosting our 6th Annual Community Day on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 3:30 p.m.

Gaines Chapel AME Church of East Moline, Illinois, will be the host church with their pastor, Rev. Adrian L. Johnson delivering the message "Knowing Who We Are Helps Us Know What We Need To Do."  Reverend Johnson is a resident of Peoria, Illinois, and a dynamic spiritual presence in our community.

We know that we can count on you to support us in an uplifting experience and message from this woman of God and the Gaines Chapel AME Choir.  Brother Terrance Simmons of the Gospel Mission Temple of Davenport, Iowa, will be the Master of Ceremonies and Geri Sumrall of The Word Church in Rock Island, Illlinois, will be the guest soloist.

Please join us in celebrating our 6th Annual Community Day. Refreshments will be served immediately following the program. Gaines Chapel is located at 311 - 19th Street in East Moline.
