Hello!

Calling all bride-to-be's! Are you looking to plan the perfect wedding but unsure of where to start? Let the Davenport Jaycees Bridal Expo help you plan the wedding of your dreams. Venture to the RiverCenter this weekend to peruse over 150 vendors looking to help you plan your dream wedding. Whether you're looking for a traditional wedding or one with the latest trends, this is the place to start.

The Figge has much planned this week in light of their newest exhibition- Katja Loher: Videoplanet - Orchestra.  On Saturday, enjoy artwork featuring a multi-sensory environment with kaleidoscopic video works projected on weather balloons and within glass spheres!  Of course, the Figge always has plenty ofeducational and family programming, too.  Make sure to check out their full calendar to see what's coming up.

Educate yourself this week on seeds, bees, and probiotics at the Quad Cities Food Hub! Share pieces of your own seed collection or gather seeds from experts at the Seed Exchange on Saturday. Stick around afterward to learn about Basics in Beekeeping. Topics will include basic bee biology, tools and equipment for beekeeping, and honey taste testing! On Wednesday, learn about the benefits of probiotics and how to make your own at home during theProbiotic Class.

Explore life on a century farm through objects, images, and stories of a German American farm family when the Kautz Farms: A Living Legacy Exhibition opens at the German American Heritage Center this weekend. While you're there, be sure to delve into the Hinges & Hearts: The World of Antique Metal & Mechanical Dolls Exhibit, too. Find out what Frankenstein, The Golem, Thomas Edison, and Marie Antoinette all have in common. On Sunday, hear about the joy and preparation of finding ancestors in Germany during Travelogues- an event that showcases the first travel adventure from Summer 2013.

With the end of January quickly approaching, it's time to start thinking about Valentine's Day reservations! Treat that special someone to a delicious dinner paired with a beautiful view of the Mississippi at the Best Minor League Ballpark in America during Modern Woodmen Park's Valentine's Day Dinner. Don't forget to have a look at Valentine's Day offerings at Hotel Blackhawk while you're at it, like their "Ode to Love" Dinner Package or their Valentine's Prix Fixe.

We'd like to welcome another new business to the Downtown Davenport family! Falbo Bros Pizzeria has officially opened! With a full menu sure to please even the pickiest of eaters, choose from a variety of specialty pizzas, super salads, hot subs, and more. Afraid you can't finish a whole pizza by yourself? First 25 fans to place orders can have the River Bandits mascot deliver a ValentineFeb. 12, 13 or 14

DAVENPORT, Iowa (JAN. 24, 2014) - With baseball spring training nearly in sight, it is a special time for Rascal the River Bandit, the friendliest raccoon in baseball, to spread joy and warmth to the Quad Cities. The River Bandits' mascot will once again deliver Valentines for the first 25 people to order one of Rascal's Sweetheart Special packages that celebrate Valentine's Day the River Bandits way.

For just $35, Rascal will paw-deliver a personalized card and any of three unique packages between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, Thursday, Feb. 13, or Friday, Feb. 14, to the workplace or residence of a special someone within a 25-mile radius from Modern Woodmen Park.

"Rascal's Sweetheart Special makes a loved one's Valentine's Day memorable and comes with the charming surprise of a delivery by Rascal himself!" said River Bandits co-owner Dave Heller. "Along with a Valentine is a fabulous gift of a River Bandits game to look forward to as baseball season returns."

The Sweetheart Special comes in the following three packages, each of which is $35:

  • River Bandits Romeo: A River Bandits logo baseball, pennant and two Lower Box Seat Vouchers to any 2014 River Bandits home game.

  • Bandit Beauty: A box of chocolates and two Lower Box Seat Vouchers to any 2014 River Bandits home game.

  • Lil' Cupid: A package of candy and a 2014 Kids Club membership, including a free ticket for a child 14 or younger to all 2014 River Bandits home games.

"These packages offer unique options for any special someone to receive a Valentine from the always fun-loving Rascal," said River Bandits General Manager Andrew Chesser. "Rascal will have a full schedule to celebrate Valentine's Day and the approaching baseball season, so this opportunity is not one to miss!"

To reserve one of the packages of Rascal's Sweetheart Special, call Brittany Carter at 563-333-2736. Only the first 25 orders will be accepted.

UP NEXT: Call today to reserve a Valentine's Day dinner at Modern Woodmen Park for Friday, Feb. 14, orSaturday, Feb. 15. Couples can enjoy a gourmet four-course dinner in a private luxury suite or take in the spectacular views of the ballpark, Centennial Bridge, Mississippi River and downtown Davenport from a table in the glass-enclosed, climate-controlled Sky Deck. Reservations are due Thursday, Feb. 6, by calling 563-324-3000. To order ticket plans - with new lower prices - for next season, call the River Bandits box office at 563-324-3000 or visit www.riverbandits.com to download the season ticket order form. Season ticket and mini-plan packages start at just seven games and begin at less than $40. Call a River Bandits account representative today to choose your seats and get the details of our various mini-plan packages.

ABOUT THE BANDITS: Having just been named Ballpark Digest's winner of Best Ballpark Improvement in America under $1 million, the River Bandits ownership is making one of the biggest improvements to Modern Woodmen Park since the ballpark was first built back in 1931! A new Ferris wheel, standing 112 feet over the playing field, is opening this spring, along with a carousel, a new ride called a "Drop and Twist," an expanded zip line, and many other new games and attractions. In 2013, the team unveiled a new 220-foot long dual zip line, a rock climbing wall, and a number of new bounce houses. The team's major league affiliate, the Houston Astros, just saw all six of its affiliates reach the playoffs - the first time in a decade any MLB team can claim such success. The River Bandits were one of three affiliates to reach the championship round and one of two to win their league championship.

IA/IL QUAD-CITIES - "Life is an exhilarating journey. It is exciting to make new discoveries as we move forward and find new passions or re-discover passions we once had. But what is passion?"

That statement, with its compelling question, comes from Bill Davis, an instructor in Ashford University's Forbes School of Business. Davis will discuss the role of passion in life in his presentation, Passion, Purpose, and Time Management, hosted by the Idea Lab, a division of Results Marketing. The Idea Lab is dedicated to providing the Quad Cities area with unique learning opportunities.
Passion, Purpose, and Time Management will be held as a Lunch and Learn presentation from 12 to 1 p.m., Jan. 31, at the St. Ambrose Professional Development Center in the New Ventures Center, 331 W. Third St., Davenport, IA. Admission is $15 and the event will include a Chick-fil-A meal.
"Bill will tell how passion ties in with purpose and time management, creating the perfect environment for success to thrive," said Todd Ashby, Managing Partner of Results Marketing. "He has written on why passion is an important factor in reaching one's goals, and we are proud to offer his inspiring presentation as our first Idea Lab Lunch and Learn of 2014."
