Hello!
RRL Logo SMALL

We'd like to say THANK YOU to everyone who made River Roots Live a tremendous success over the weekend!  Thanks to all of our volunteers and sponsors in addition to everyone who came out and supported the festival. RRL isn't possible without each and every one of you!

We'd also like to take a moment to congratulate Bones BBQ, a Davenport based BBQ vendor, that won the people's choice award at the festival.  Bones BBQ is the first local BBQ vendor to ever win this award.  Stop into his place at 4707 Brady Street for a bite to eat and say congratulations!

The Nadas are one of Iowa's signature bands with over 125,000 albums sold and the group will hit the Redstone Room tonight!  Other RME shows this week include Friday Live at 5, As A Heart Attack, Franti Project, and The Devil Whale.   Jim The Mule and The Dawn's joint CD Release Show will rock RME on Friday night; get there early to catch openers Busted Chandeliers and Kerry Tucker Band.

The River Bandits are in action tonight and tomorrow before returning to Modern Woodmen Park on Wednesday.  Friday night is City of Davenport night at the ballgame in addition to Fireworks after the game and a Bandit Wedding.  Tonight marks another Thirst-Day Thursday and next Wednesday's game includes a Presidential bobble-head giveaway!

Join the Davenport Public Library through the end of the month as they display St. John's Bible.  A master calligrapher, Paul Herrera, will put on a free demonstration and lecture Monday evening.  Herrera has been lecturing and instructing in lettering and calligraphy for over thirty years throughout the United States and Canada.

The NASA Art Exhibition continues at the Figge and enjoy a film titled "When We Left the Earth" on Saturday.

See you downtown!

Humility of Mary Housing, Inc. is celebrating 22 years of service to the Quad Cities with a New Orleans style Jazz Brunch at Crow Valley Golf Club on Sunday, September 23, 2012, from 11am to 2pm. Sarah Marie Young, a Chicago vocalist, will once again be the featured entertainer and she will be accompanied by a pianist and a string bass player. Sarah Marie was awarded first place in the international Montreux Jazz Voice Competition in Switzerland last year.

This year we are adding an auction featuring an opportunity for you and your friends to have lunch with either Sam Allen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Deere and Company, or Joan Lescinski, CSJ, PhD., President of St. Ambose University.

Humility of Mary Housing, Inc. (HMHI) has provided supportive housing for 711 single parents and their 1391 children during these past 22 years. These families were homeless at the time they entered the program. HMHI provides single parents with the tools and support to complete degrees, find jobs, and move into their own homes. Children learn there is a different way to live; some have become the first in their family to complete high school and go on to college. Over 400 applications from single parent families, including nearly 600 children, are received each year and yet HMHI has space and staff to provide services to only 47 of these families at any one time.

Please join us in our celebration and support this valuable community asset.

For more information, please contact our office at 563-326-1330.

IA/IL QUAD-CITIES- This would have been the eighth year for the Diamonds & Divas event benefitting Gilda's Club but this year the event committee is rolling the dice with a new event - Gilda's Club Casino Night.

"The secret of having a longstanding, successful event is knowing when you need to change it up a little," said Rosemary Ocar, Davenport, Chair of the Casino Night Committee. "We are excited to have an event where men can attend and much like our former Divas event we're still glamorous and glitzy incorporating the fun and feel of Vegas; all for a good cause."

Gilda's Club Quad Cities provides programs free of charge to men, women, and children affected by cancer. Gilda's Club does not receive federal or state funding. It is funded through the caring people of the community.

The new Casino Night event will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, September 28 th, 2012, at Jumer's Casino and Hotel, 777 Jumer Drive, Rock Island, IL, 61201. The cost is $55 per person, $100 per couple.

Blackjack, poker, live and silent auction, Vegas style entertainment, showgirls and much more will make this evening one you won't forget.

"I think our loyal Diva audience will have a great time at our new event and we're only increasing awareness and funds by inviting the men of the Quad Cities to join us," said Michele Stoos, Corporate Communications and Brand Manager of The Sedona Group and one of the event's organizers.

To register for the event, contact Paige Nagle of Gilda's Club Quad Cities at (563) 326-7504 or by email, Paige@gildasclubqc.org.

We have an epidemic in this country and it's name is Alzheimer's disease.  More people will die from this disease this year than breast and prostate cancer combined.  It is the 6th leading cause of death and the only one in the top 10 causes with no way to prevent, cure or slow the progression.  More money is allocated to fighting obesity than Alzheimer's.  We need all of you...  We need to raise awareness, raise funds and promote research...  We need to raise our voices to make noise so people take notice.

The WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S is the largest national support group for people to do that.  It is our largest fundraiser and way to reach the masses.  We are contacting you because it is going to take all of us to make that happen.  I have attached the facts so I won't go into the numbers here, but they are jaw dropping.  Our country is not prepared for this tsunami headed our way, the numbers of persons with the disease, the number of caregivers needed and the costs of providing that care.  Let alone, providing support and healthcare for the caregivers.  The ripple effect of this disease is widespread as families struggle to care for their loved ones, often at home.
My name is Joni Johnson, Community Relations Coordinator for the Alzheimer's Association in the Iowa counties of Clinton, Muscatine and Scott; Illinois counties of Henry, Mercer and Rock Island.  I am writing to you today for your help.

The wait is over!  River Roots Live comes to life tomorrow in LeClaire Park and our delicious Ribfest BBQ vendors will be open for lunch beginning at 11:00 a.m. Admission is free before 5 p.m. and only $5 after 5 p.m. both nights.

Iconic 90's rockers Better Than Ezra and Tonic headline Saturday night and the and wildly-talented  Keller Williams with the Travelin' McCourys headline Friday!  With monster hits like Good, If You Could Only See, Desperately Wanting, Open Up Your Eyes, and You Wanted More, there will be plenty of big tunes to sing along to.

Julia Nunes Fourteen more bands including YouTube sensation Julia Nunes and rising star Joe Robinson (who John Mayer fans will love) are sure to impress, too.  Great bands like The Congress, Eric Sardinas, Steepwater Band, The Nighthawks, Quiet Corral, and Family Groove Company will be joined by some of the QC's finest bands including American Dust, Jordan Danielsen,  and more.  Check out the full lineup!

Rib Fest We've added even more lip-smacking Ribfest BBQ vendors this year too, so make sure to grab a ballot and cast your vote for the people's choice award after trying every rib and brisket you can find.  We have other new vendors too this year including downtown's own The Ruby Slipper.  Visit their booth and bring the kids out to the Jr. Jam Tent, too!

We'd like to say THANK YOU to all of our RRL sponsors and especially our title sponsors Riverboat Development Authority and Rhythm City Casino for making this event possible.  We couldn't do this without our dedicated volunteers either; we're looking forward to a great weekend.

After the festival ends Friday night, head over to the River Music Experience for the River Roots Live Late Night show featuring Old Shoe.  This five-piece Americana Folk Rock band is sure to bring the Redstone Room to life following the fest.  Other RME events this week include Signal Path, Brer Bucktown's Traveling Tent Show, 3rd Sunday Jazz, The Tangents, Buffalo Clover, and Kidz Days at RME.

David Plowden's Iowa comes to a close at the Figge Art Museum on Sunday; go see this breath-taking exhibit before it's gone.  While you're at the Figge, check out NASA | Art, Exploring NASA, Waxing Poetic, the Corn Zone, and Sculpting Fiber, too.  If you are in the mood for some creativity, attend Create with Kelli or the Watercolor for Beginners class.

The River Bandits return to Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday night to kick-off a four game set!   Outdoor Night closes out the series on Tuesday.  To wrap-up the week, the Kane County Cougars come to town and the Bandits will give away another set of Replica World Series Championship Rings on Wednesday night.

Rhythm City Casino will offer live music this weekend by North of 40 and River City Six.  Also check out the "State of Scott" film showing at the German American Heritage Center over the weekend.  Plus, don't forget about Public Skates and Adult Drop-In Hockey going on at River's Edge.

See you downtown!
