Davenport, Iowa (October 31, 2016) –The ninth annual College Invitational will open at the Figge Art Museum on Saturday, November 5 in the second floor Mary Waterman Gildehaus Community Gallery.

 

 

The exhibition will feature about 60 works of art by college students from eight area colleges and universities, including Augustana College, Black Hawk College, Knox College, Monmouth College, Scott Community College, St. Ambrose University and Western Illinois University. Art professors from each of the participating colleges were tasked with selecting the top works from their school to provide the framework for this year’s exhibition.

 

 

In the selected works, a variety of techniques are used including ink, collage, stoneware clay, etching, digital illustration, watercolor, silkscreen and found materials.

 

 

An opening reception for participating students will be held Thursday, November 10 beginning at 5 p.m. with remarks and awards at 6 p.m.

Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Barbara Leidenfrost in loving memory of her husband, Oscar, the Figge will award cash prizes for first-, second- and third-place winners. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges comprised of local artists.

This exhibition will be on view through January 7, 2017.

 

 

About the Figge Art Museum:

 

The Figge Art Museum is located on the riverfront in downtown Davenport at 225 West Second Street. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays the museum is open until 9 p.m. Admission to the museum and tour is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and students with ID and $4 children ages 4-12. Admission is free to Figge members and institutional members, and free to all on Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Figge Café is open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.
