Mount Carroll, IL--The Board of Directors of Timber Lake Playhouse has announced that current Executive Director, James Beaudry, will be returning to the position of Artistic Director for the theatre company's 2015 summer season. The company is beginning a search for a new Executive Director, who will work with the board of directors, overseeing all business operations of the company which just completed its 53rd summer in Mount Carroll.

Tina Stretton, Manager of Theatre Operations announced her departure following a very successful summer season that critics said "sets the bar incredibly high." Looking at the growth of the company, a task force made of board members, audience members, regional business leaders and consultants recommended an evolution in company leadership to help keep the artistic quality high while improving audience services and the financial stability of the institution. Beaudry is pleased with the upcoming changes.

"The Company is committed to positive change to manage our growth and improve audience experience. We've outgrown our own operations--which is a great problem to have--but it's still a problem until it's solved. I'm thrilled that the Board of Directors is taking steps to see TLP grow to new heights," Beaudry said.

"It's been a privilege to call TLP my artistic home for almost fifteen years. I'm excited to be able to focus all of my efforts once again on the creative work of the playhouse, so we can continue to offer the spectacular work that our audiences expect--with both inventive stagecraft like our production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and by bringing in the best talent from around the country as we did with Les Miserables."

The Board of Directors hope to fill the new position by November 1, 2014 following a national and regional search. Information about the job and the company can be found at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org.

Timber Lake Playhouse serves 20,000 patrons a year in Northwest, Illinois, and is the oldest continuously operating summer theatre in the state. The company receives support from the Illinois Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the theatre building. The original building was destroyed in a fire in 1974.

TLP's 2015 summer season includes Hairspray, The Big Meal, Peter Pan, Greater Tuna, Big Fish and Big River. Children's shows include Pinocchio and James And The Giant Peach. Season passes for all six shows are only $119 and are available now at 815-244-2035 or at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org. Gift certificates and group sales are available year round.

Ericka Nicole Malone Readies to Take 'In Love with Tyrone' to 42nd Street

Cincinnati, OH - September 15, 2014 - Playwright Ericka Nicole Malone is looking to take her popular Gospel Musical "In Love with Tyrone" to the Big Apple and is currently in talks with directors and producers to bring the touring show to Broadway for a run on the "Great White Way." Malone has partnered with a famed New York City General Manager and Tony Award-winning Producer, who has produced past and current shows on Broadway.

Malone and her business team currently making plans to raise necessary capital, and are working to secure sponsorship support for the eyed $10 million Broadway production. Malone points to the high accomplishments of one of her personal favorites, "Motown: The Musical" which debuted in 2012 and is still running strong on Broadway and "A Raisin In The Sun" receiving four Tony Awards and a prestigious Theatre World Award this year.

"In Love with Tyrone" toured in 2012 and made stops throughout the Midwest and East Coast to rave reviews in 2012. The musical featured actress Robin Givens in the lead role as Danetta and Leon Robinson of The Five Heartbeats as lead of the male antagonist of the story, Sullivan. The musical is a story about a woman's struggle to redefine herself after she is betrayed by her first love and best friend - her husband Tyrone. The urban contemporary, inspiring musical features eight original songs by Malone, including the hit single "Stay."

"It's amazing to be in a position where we're even considering a run on Broadway," Malone explained. "The show touches so many different types of audiences and the message is universal. It's funny, it's sad, it's inspiring and uplifting and we're thrilled to have an opportunity to bring this to arguably the largest stage in the world."

And while additional funds for the proposed Broadway run are required, Malone says she has all the necessary pieces in place to deliver a winning performance at this level. "The show has been honed and perfected on the road, and the response from the audience and the media has been overwhelming. It's a proven winner, and it's time to bring it to life on Broadway," Malone said.

WALLED-IN A West Berlin Girl's Journey to Freedom by Elke Ertle

Join us for her presentation, a discussion, & book signing on SUNDAY. SEPT. 14TH -2PM

Elke Ertle will speak on her memories of living in West Berlin during the Cold War. In her memoir, Walled-In, J. Elke Ertle shares what it was like to grow up in West Berlin, Germany, during the aftermath of World War II, a time when the city was divided into American, British, French, and Soviet occupation sectors. Initially, forty percent of all structures in the city were destroyed. There was little food or shelter. Many died, but Elke's family survived.

Interweaving history with personal experiences, J. Elke Ertle takes the reader on a remarkable journey into her closely supervised, yet happy childhood, her youthful disillusionment, and her deliberate, albeit difficult decision to choose freedom.

Catchin' the Babies
As part of the New Play Festival week, City Circle is also presenting a remount of Sue Gilbert's award-winning play Catchin' the Babies on Thursday, September 18 at 7:30pm and Saturday, September 20 at 2pm.  Catchin' the Babies was developed through two previous New Play Festivals and is a glimpse into early pioneer life, as seen through the eyes of Annie MacFarlane, a half-Cherokee, half-Irish midwife. In February 2007, Catchin' the Babies competed in the Iowa Association of American Community Theatres Festival and won Best Play, Best Female Actor, and Best Set Design (Michael Blake).  It is directed by John Harper.

Formally a stalwart of the Iowa City Community Theatre and then a founding member City Circle Acting Company, Sue Gilbert has worked in theatres all over the Midwest as an actor, director, designer, costumer and now playwright.  She has appeared on stage in shows as diverse as The Rocky Horror Show, The Lion in Winter, A Little Night Music, Gypsy, Come Back Little Sheba and The Boys Next Door.  Sue is also a historical re-enactor across three centuries teaching children and adults about the lives and skills of our ancestors.  Her work as a re-enactor led to writing Catchin' the Babies, the family stories about her 2x Great Grandmother that became a play.

Elijah Jones is a recent graduate of Iowa City High School.  He got his first stage experience at The Second City Training Center in Chicago and has performed for City Circle and other local theater groups for the last four years.

Young Footliters presents Joseph Robinette's adaptation of the C. S. Lewis novel The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe for 4 performances, September 12-14 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.  The production features 32 local children in 4th grade through 10th grades and is directed by Matt Falduto.  Hills Bank is the supporting sponsor.

Performances are at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts Friday, September 12 at 7pm, Saturday, September 13 at 2pm and 7pm, and Sunday, September 14 at 2pm.  Tickets are $7 - $12 and are available online at www.coralvillearts.org, by phone at 319.248.9370, and in person at the CCPA box office (1301 5th Street) and Coralville Recreation Center (1506 8th Street).

Robinette's adaptation features the characters of the novel - the four children, the talking animals, the White Witch and her followers, and the great lion Aslan - in a timeless setting that contemporary children can identify with.   Director Falduto worked to create an empowering experience for the children who are in the cast and those in the audience, helping them understand the themes of the story.  For example, he says that as a child, he "loved that Edmund could screw up, find forgiveness, and then become the hero.  To me, that's a very powerful message for our kids to learn."  This adaptation also presents a strong, brave Susan and a Peter who finds strength in emotion and empathy, portrayed by real life siblings Emma and David Bluder.

Young Footliters is a program of the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts offering children and teens fun, creative, and educational theater arts opportunities in a safe, positive, and professional environment.  Young Footliters aims to produce quality productions and classes that promote responsibility, confidence, leadership, cooperation, and arts appreciation.
