PELLA, IOWA (May 27, 2020) — Career Academy of Pella hosted a virtual signing day on May 20 to welcome participants into a new and expanding work-based educational program in Marion County.

In total, 13 students from high schools in Pella signed letters with the US Department of Labor to participate in apprenticeship programs in welding and engineering or made a commitment to information technology and early education certifications.

PELLA, IOWA (May 21, 2020) — Central College has announced it has waived ACT and SAT testing requirements for students applying for admission in Fall 2020 and Spring and Fall 2021 semesters.

The change in the college's policy was made as a result of the national suspension of ACT and SAT testing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Central will now only require students to submit high school transcripts.

PELLA, IOWA (May 19, 2020) — Central College has been approved by the State of Iowa to offer the early-childhood/special-education-unified endorsement in its education department. Central becomes one of nine teacher preparation institutions in Iowa to offer this endorsement.

PELLA, IOWA (May 11, 2020) — Morgan Keasler, associate director of career and professional development at Central College, has been named president of CONNECT-Iowa formerly known as Iowa College Recruiting Network (ICoRN).

Keasler was elected as a regional representative for CONNECT-Iowa in the 2018-19 academic year to serve a two-year term. She was nominated for president last year when the president-elect left his role. Keasler began her new role May 1.

PELLA, IOWA (April 28, 2020) — Central College has announced leadership changes in its enrollment-management and student-development teams.

Chevy Freiburger, who has been the executive director of admission for the past year, has been promoted to the role of dean of enrollment-management.

PELLA, IOWA (April 23, 2020) — Central's annual Scholarship Celebration was scheduled for Thursday, April 23, but was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. The event gives student scholarship recipients the opportunity to personally thank and share dinner with donors who help make their Central education possible. More than 700 students would have been recognized this year in PH Kuyper Gymnasium.

PELLA, IOWA (04/15/2020) — Iowa Campus Compact has announced its winners of the 2020 Engaged Campus Awards and the list includes two nominated by Central College.

Kellie Gorsche Markey, a 1988 graduate of Central who founded Dorothy's House in Des Moines, Iowa, received the Alumni Leadership Award. OLAS, Central's Organization of Latinx-American Students, received the Presidents' Student Leadership Award.

PELLA, IOWA (April 6, 2020) — Leslie Duinink, registrar and class dean at Central College, has been appointed by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds to the Iowa Board of Chiropractic.

The Iowa Board of Chiropractic evaluates the qualifications of applicants for licensure and grants licenses to those who qualify. It also establishes rules and regulations to ensure the integrity and competence of licensed chiropractors and investigates complaints for unprofessional conduct.

 

PELLA, IOWA (February 28, 2020) — Jay Wackerly, associate professor of chemistry at Central College, was the primary author of research published in Chemistry — A European Journal earlier this year. Wackerly was joined by former and current students from Central, as well as faculty and students from the University of Iowa.
