DES MOINES, IOWA (August 22, 2019) — City and school elections will be conducted simultaneously this year, on Tuesday, November 5. A law passed by the Iowa Legislature in 2017 ended the long-standing tradition of holding school board elections in September. 

Secretary of State Paul Pate hopes the combined elections will increase voter-participation.

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 15, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announces Iowans set a record for most new-business filings in a single year, for the fourth year in a row. During Fiscal Year 2019, which concluded on June 30, 24,720 new businesses filed with the Secretary of State’s Office. That is a 4.5% increase from last year’s record high of 23,649.

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 8, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate was unanimously elected President of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) during the organization’s summer conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Additionally, Sec Pate won the prestigious NASS IDEAS Award for his election cybersecurity initiative, “Partnerships Pay Dividends: A Roadmap to Election Cybersecurity”.

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 20, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate honored the Iowa County Information Technology organization (ICIT) with a prestigious award for its assistance with improving election cybersecurity across the state. Sec Pate presented a National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion Award to the group during their annual conference on Thursday in West Des Moines.
