Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate Partners with Iowa Laundromat Owners to Promote Safe at Home During Domestic Violence Awareness Month

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 3, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is partnering with laundromat owners across Iowa to raise awareness for Safe at Home, an address confidentiality-program for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and stalking. Sec Pate’s office is sending Safe at Home brochures and stickers to Iowa laundromats, encouraging them to prominently display the materials.

Between September 19-24, Iowans will see reminders in their Facebook News Feed about registering to vote.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate Announces Carrie Chapman Catt Award for High Schools That Register 90% of Eligible Students to Vote

DES MOINES, IOWA (September 10, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate kicked off a new voter-registration initiative Tuesday aimed at Iowa high-school students. Every school in Iowa that registers at least 90-percent of their eligible students to vote will receive the Carrie Chapman Catt Award, named after the Iowan who was a national leader in the women’s-suffrage movement.

DES MOINES, IOWA (September 4, 2019) — September is National Voter Registration Month and Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate encourages all eligible Iowans to participate by registering to vote or making sure your voter information is up-to-date. The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established September as National Voter Registration Month in 2002 to encourage voter participation and increase awareness. Secretary Pate is the President of NASS.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is partnering with the Iowa Cubs to promote the state’s unique first-in-the-nation caucus status and help Cubs fans register to vote. The Iowa Cubs will temporarily change their team name to the Iowa Caucuses for this Friday’s game against the Memphis Redbirds.

School and City Elections Held on Same Day Beginning This Year; Candidate Filing Starts Monday

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 22, 2019) — City and school elections will be conducted simultaneously this year, on Tuesday, November 5. A law passed by the Iowa Legislature in 2017 ended the long-standing tradition of holding school board elections in September. 

Secretary of State Paul Pate hopes the combined elections will increase voter-participation.

State Fair Straw Poll to Include Presidential, Senate, and House Candidates

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 1, 2019) — Secretary of State Paul Pate’s annual Iowa State Fair Straw Poll will allow fairgoers to vote for their preferred candidate in the presidential, Senate, and House races. The poll will be conducted on iPads at the Secretary’s booth inside the Varied Industries Building throughout the Iowa State Fair, August 8-18.

Iowa Breaks Record for New Business Filings for Fourth Consecutive Year

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 15, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announces Iowans set a record for most new-business filings in a single year, for the fourth year in a row. During Fiscal Year 2019, which concluded on June 30, 24,720 new businesses filed with the Secretary of State’s Office. That is a 4.5% increase from last year’s record high of 23,649.

Iowa Wins Bid to Host National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) 2021 Summer Conference

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 10, 2019) — Election officials and state executives from around the nation will converge in Iowa in 2021 as the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) holds its annual summer conference in Des Moines. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate developed the successful bid presentation and pitched it to his colleagues, with assistance from Catch Des Moines.
