The nation's Secretaries of State, 40 of whom serve as their state’s chief election official, along with other state and local election officials are continuously working to inform Americans about the elections process.

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 29, 2019) — Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are the top vote-getters among presidential candidates in Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s Iowa Youth Straw Poll. Thousands of students across the state voted in the poll on Tuesday.

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 16, 2019) — Thousands of students will vote for their preferred candidates for President,  Senate, and House during Secretary of State Paul Pate’s Iowa Youth Straw Poll on Tuesday, October 29. This will be the first Iowa Youth Straw Poll since a change in Iowa law that allows 17-year-olds to register to vote and participate in primary elections. Next year, they can vote in the Iowa Caucuses and the June primary if they will be 18 by November 3, 2020. 

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 7, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announces a new 14-member, bipartisan Auditors’ Working Group to assist in the administration of elections and sharing of best practices. The 14 members represent a broad spectrum of Iowa counties, spanning urban and rural areas across the state.
