Tai chi ch’uan is a system of rounded, fluid and balanced movements based on ancient Chinese teachings of living in harmony with nature. Practiced daily, it promotes mental tranquility and improves physical fitness. Learn more about this gentle yet effective exercise with local Tai Chi teacher Scott Caulpetzer at Main (321 Main Street) on Thursday, August 17 at noon.

The must-read book of the summer and winner of the QC Libraries’ 2017 Teen Tournament of Books is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard!

Red Queen beat out 29 other titles chosen from the 2018 Iowa High School Book Award & Lincoln Award: Illinois Teen Readers’ Choice nominees in a five round bracket-style tournament. Participants voted for books they have read and/or those they wish to read.

If you can’t make it to the solar eclipse’s path of totality, then come join us at Eastern (6000 Eastern Avenue) on Monday, August 21 at noon for a partial Solar Eclipse Viewing Party! We will be making pinhole cameras and other crafts before heading outside to the park behind Eastern to view this awesome event.

The Davenport Public Library at Main (321 Main Street) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018. In preparation, the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center has scoured our extensive city archives to put together a 2018 calendar that features unique historic photographs of Davenport. Proceeds will go towards the Special Collections Center and their services in the areas of genealogy and local history.

Due to road closures and expected large crowds, Main (321 Main Street) will be closed the morning of the Bix 7 race, Saturday July 29, but will reopen in the afternoon, 1:00pm to 5:30pm. Our other locations at Fairmount (3000 Fairmount Street) and Eastern (6000 Eastern Avenue) will be open their regular business hours of 9:00am to 5:30pm.

Adulting Classes at the Davenport Public Library

Master the basics of being an adult with the help of a series of Adulting classes being held at the Davenport Public Library. Join us on the second Tuesday of every month at Fairmount (3000 Fairmount Street) at 6:00pm to learn life skills that will help you navigate the adult world with ease.

Head downtown on Thursday, August 3rd from 11:00am to 1:00pm where folks will be dancin’ in the street! Don Estes and the Prairie Ramblers, with the help of Bos Sound, will be playing live jazz for the Davenport Public Library’s annual Bix Porch Party at Main (321 Main Street). Be sure to bring a lawn chair as we block off Main Street for some good old-fashioned fun!
