DES MOINES, IOWA (January 31, 2019) — The Iowa State Fair will celebrate the 90th birthday of Baby Mine at the 2019 Fair in the form of a concrete statue contest. Baby Mine was a baby elephant that 15,000 Iowa children helped sponsor and name by sending in nearly $1,000 in nickels and dimes. Baby Mine debuted at the 1929 Fair and 25,000 children showed up the first day of the Fair to meet it. A replica of Baby Mine is located in Fun Forest near the children's train and playground.

Past concrete statues have included an ice cream cone, the state of Iowa, a cow, a horse, a ribbon, the Iowa State Fair logo and a Ferris wheel.
