DES MOINES, IOWA (September 6, 2019) — Pink Genetics of Douds took home the Champion Gilt honors at the Spotted Swine Show judged at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Bombei and Sons Showpigs of Delta exhibited the Reserve Champion Gilt. Neihaus and Feldman Genetics of Greene earned Champion Boar. Joel Olson of Atkins claimed Grand Champion Boar.

Niehaus and Feldman Genetics of Greene earned Premier Exhibitor honors.

DES MOINES, IOWA (September 6, 2019) — Hildreth Show Pigs of Jewell received Champion Boar honors at the Yorkshire Swine show judged at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Joe Bair of Elkhart received the Reserve Champion Boar title.

Double WW Swine of Swaledale exhibited the Champion Gilt, while Delaney Runner of Gilman exhibited the Reserve Champion Gilt.

Animals are divided according to farrowing date based on the other animals entered in the competition.

DES MOINES, IOWA (September 6, 2019) — Tommy Janssen of Wellsburg was awarded the Grand Champion Hawkeye Market Swine Banner at the Hawkeye Market Swine show at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Chanan and Tinlee Snakenberg of Fremont were awarded Reserve Grand Champion Hawkeye Market Swine.

Jordyn Siepker of Des Moines was named overall adult winner. Brooklynn Sedlock of Indianola won overall winner for youth entries.

Don King of Waverly and Brooklyn Sedlock of Indianola were named tie winners of the sweepstakes award.

Entries were judged on use of honey, appearance, texture, and taste.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Dairies competed for top honors in the Jersey Dairy Cattle show judged Thursday, August 9, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

The Grand Champion Female was shown by Ski Pal Ayrshires, Epworth. KCCK Genetics, Dyersville, exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Female. Rachel Hefel/Bambi/Joe Gibbs, Epwroth, received Honorable Mention.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Top dairies competed for honors in the Guernsey Dairy Cattle show judged at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Prairie Moon Guernseys, Waukon had a solid showing at the Fair taking home Champion Premier Exhibitor and Champion Premier Breeder.

South Lane Farm of Epworth earned Female Grand Champion. Prairie Moon Guernseys of Waukon took Reserve Champion Female Grand Champion.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — The top quick-bread makers from across the state put their best creations to the test in the Quick Breads competition, judged Friday, August 16, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair. Judy Kiburz-Harrison of Tingley took home the Sweepstakes award.

Entries were judged on general appearance, texture, flavor and aroma.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Yeast breads for the Whole Grain Breads with Red Star Platinum Yeast competition were judged Friday, August 16, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Louise Piper of Garner claimed first place and a $75 cash award.

Charlene Hermiston of Blue Grass earned second place.

Entries were judged on shape, crust, texture and flavor.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Horseshoe-throwers from across the state competed in the Iowa State Men's Championship division of the Horseshoe Contest Sunday at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

The State Fair hosts horseshoe competitions every Fair day. All Horseshoe Pitching competitions take place on the horseshoe courts just east of Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall.
