The focus of my campaign remains getting Iowans back to work and balancing the state budget by reducing government spending. In the spirit of reducing government spending and protecting our liberties, I have decided to pursue my inclination to de-criminalize marijuana use and distribution in the state of Iowa if elected to the Senate. Let me be clear that changing Iowa's law will not change the federal classification of marijuana. Further let me also state that I will not pursue a policy of "medical marijuana" that will pit the state law against the federal law and contribute to a California-like problem that comes with taxation and commercialization.

What do Scott County, Iowa, and Chicago have in common?

Not much, except that a company from Chicago is about to get a $160,000 contract paid for by Iowa taxpayer dollars.

For what, you ask? An energy audit on the county's eight facilities - including the brand new, state-of-the-art Scott County courthouse and jail.

Why does a two-year-old multi-million-dollar facility need an energy audit?

I doubt it does. However, the county had secured some grant money (a.k.a. Iowa taxpayer dollars), and when they found out the audit was going to cost less than expected on the two buildings that were originally slated for, they decided to spend the rest because they thought it was better to find a place to "spend, spend, spend" instead of patting themselves on the back for what could have been tens of thousands of dollars of savings to the state.

I am writing in praise of Nate Lawrence and Polyrhythms. Polyrhythms is a Quad Cities organization dedicated to bringing jazz music to their community, not only through live performance, but also with workshops for non-musicians and musicians alike. These events take place the third Sunday of every month at the state-of-the-art Redstone Room inside the beautiful new River Music Experience building, which serves as a museum/classroom/performance space for American music (with an emphasis on jazz music that came up the Mississippi River).

I am a jazz vocalist based in Chicago. Last Sunday, I had the great fortune of performing for the Quad Cities community as part of Polyrhythms' Third Sunday Jazz program. The experience was very rewarding because of the combination of the performance and the workshop.

As I follow the request by the Scott County owner of Grandview Farms to expand his Concentrated Animals Feeding Operation (CAFO), I do not think the debate has adequately addressed the question of how this CAFO and factory farms will affect the quality of the environment for generations to come.

In 2008, a family decided that they wanted to bring the drive-in-movie-theater experience back to the Quad Cities. In a time when recession-stricken individuals are looking for less-expensive outlets to bring them a bit of joy, the Reel to Reel Drive-in Theater was going to be able to provide that. As of today, that dream has been yet again put on hold.

You see, American Residential Communities, otherwise known as ARC, operates Lakeside Trailer Park on the outskirts of west Davenport. ARC feels that the land that Reel to Reel will operate on will cause so much disruption that they will lose tenants. At least, that's how they seem to be operating. They've gone from legal battle to legal battle against Scott County to appeal, and successfully put on hold, the construction of the drive-in. However, I'd like to take this opportunity to illustrate the logic, or lack thereof, behind their fight.

Dear Representatives (Reps), and citizens, media, etc; May 1, 2010

I, Cecil James Roth, ProSeParty (Honesty FIRST), noticed that America's pillar institutions have revealed themselves to be corrupt, incompetent or both. That includes: our government (Executive, Legislative, Judicial branches); the media; the church; etc. A lot of corruption is caused by lawyers and Reps that have dishonored their oaths by looking away from reporting violations - required by law. Here are important and necessary changes:

Reps: #1) Show that you honor your oath by serving justly, and favoring laws to prohibit the taking of any kind of influence money, benefitting financially from representing citizens, and the appearance of dishonesty. Favor laws that prevent agencies from investigating their own, and laws that grant any citizen the right to appeal the denial of his rights. Advance laws that follow the Silver Rule. Publicly admit your mistakes and explain how you are going about to make corrections. Point out dishonest Reps and encourage citizens to vote them out!

OBITUARY................

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing
regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only
worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they
themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to
administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a
steaming cup of coffee was hot.. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife,
Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

On October 19, I was able to speak to Senator Charles Grassley about a specific issue I have with the stimulus payments for the first-time-homebuyer credit. It only took four days from the time I sent the e-mail requesting to be placed in the telephone queue before I was able to speak to him directly. After our conversation, I sent e-mails to both Representative Boswell and Senator Harkin.

I began this drive to speak to my elected officials when e-mails went unanswered and snail mail was responded to with form letters that failed to address the point I was making.

Eleven days later I am optimistic that I will be able to speak with Representative Boswell in the next week.

But today, I was told by a staffer (Michelle) in a phone call that "Senator Harkin is just 'too busy' to talk with all of his constituents that want to talk to him. It is not feasible." Frequently during the phone call I was interrupted and was not able to voice a complete thought. I responded that I just might be too busy to vote for him the next time he was running for re-election.

I was raised in a staunchly Democratic household. I believe in most of the Democratic platform. Yet what message is sent to me when I am able to easily access a member of the Republican Party and not of the party that is currently in power? It tells me that my voice is unheard and that is how it will remain.

They may be disappointed by the possibility of losing my vote, but they are not nearly as disappointed in me as I am in them.

I'm Cecil James Roth, a ProSeParty member, and I want to encourage you to write your representatives, and other citizens, about concerns of all citizens, and vote out representatives that give the appearance of impropriety (the failure to show due honesty) to the public. Lewis Rothschild (Michael J. Fox) in The American President said: "In this country it's not only permissible to question our leaders, it's our responsibility." Yes, ... it is our responsibility! Who are our legal leaders and representatives? They are all elected officials, police officers, teachers, judges, lawyers, ... anyone employed by our taxes, or took an oath to uphold the Constitution or the law. Attorneys have taken an oath to uphold the laws and report lawyer misconduct. I believe all lawyers improperly ignore other lawyer's misconduct ... unless done to them. Most media have Platforms that they will "never be afraid to attack wrong" - Joseph Pulitzer. Do they, ... always?

1. Former FBI Translator and Whistleblower Sibel Edmonds has exposed, among many other disturbing revelations, that Osama bin Laden and "Al Qaeda" (which simply means "the base") were working with government intelligence operatives right up until the morning of 9/11 (and perhaps beyond):

http://amconmag.com/article/2009/nov/01/00006/

2. The 9/11 Commission Report has been exposed as almost entirely untrue by John Farmer, the Dean of Rutgers School of Law--Newark who served as Senior Counsel to the Commission:

http://media-newswire.com/release_1098894.html

3. No reasonably intelligent and rational individual could possibly watch the full two hours of this video and still honestly believe everything the American government has told its citizens about the events of 11 September 2001:

http://www.ae911truth.org/flashmov11.htm

4. The 9/11 Truth Movement ebbs and flows ... losing credibility with each Alex Fox media stunt and every (planted?) Icke-ish nut claiming alien lizard people or Apocalyptic demons are to blame ... then regaining momentum whenever one more brave citizen opens their mind to the harsh facts and horrible ramifications of what the truth might be, and demands an unbridled investigation knowing they will be called "kook" or "communist" by scared Sheeple seeking to maintain the bliss of ignorance. This will go on, ad nauseam and forever, until the Truth of 9/11 is fully investigated and openly exposed.

So again I ask, why is the mainstream media not demanding the truth about 9/11?

Whatever happened to investigative journalism?
