For the past week there have been ongoing discussions between congressional leadership and the Administration relating to an agreement on budget caps and raising the debt limit. Those discussions produced an agreement that was announced Monday night.

WASHINGTON DC (July 25, 2019) — Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) are seeking information from Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on the use of solitary confinement following recent allegations of misuse. In a letter today to Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence, the Senators note recent inspector general reports that highlighted deficiencies by some ICE field offices in properly reporting and documenting the use of solitary confinement.

MANKATO, MINNESOTA (July 25, 2019) — The Academic High Honor and Honor lists (Dean's lists) for the past spring semester at Minnesota State University, Mankato have been announced by Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Marilyn Wells.  Among 3,140 students, a total of 829 students qualified for the High Honor List by achieving a 4.0 straight "A" average, while 2,311 students earned a 3.5 to 3.99 average to qualify for the Honor List. 

WASHINGTON DC (July 24, 2019) — Senators Charles "Chuck" Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR), the chairman and vice chairman of the Senate Whistleblower Protection Caucus, today announced the addition of three new senators to the caucus’ ranks. The new members include Sens Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), bringing total membership to fourteen senators.

Multi-millionaire Jeffrey Epstein stands accused of sex trafficking and conspiracy to traffic minors for sex. On July 18, US District Court judge Richard Berman denied bail, ordering that Epstein be confined until trial. The US Constitution's Eighth Amendment is short and sweet: "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

ESTHERVILLE, IOWA (July 24, 2019) — Valerie Newhouse, President of Iowa Lakes Community College, has released the spring honors list of full-time students (12 credits or more) who have demonstrated academic excellence by earning a grade-point-average of 3.25 (based on a 4.00) or higher. Spring semester students who have achieved a 3.25 grade-point-average or better are recognized by inclusion on the dean's list. Those with a 4.00 (A) average are on the President's list.
