In mid-June, Facebook — in cahoots with 28 partners in  the financial and tech sectors — announced plans to introduce Libra, a blockchain-based virtual currency. The world's governments and central banks reacted quickly with calls for investigation and regulation. Their concerns are quite understandable, but, unfortunately, already addressed in Libra's planned structure. The problem for governments and central banks:

TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA (June 21, 2019) — A total of 11,406 students enrolled during the 2019 spring term at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's).

The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or to undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 21, 2019) — Today, Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the Future Ready Iowa (FRI) Employer Innovation Fund is now open for applications that help increase the number of Iowans earning non-credit and for-credit postsecondary credentials that lead to high-demand jobs. Applications can be prepared and submitted through IowaGrants.gov by August 1. Eligible applicants include employers, employer consortiums and community organizations.

Bakersfield Outlaws will perform from 5-8PM. Like every Live@Five, it is completely free and for all ages. NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA (June 21, 2019) — Mary Sears of Davenport, Iowa, graduated from Carleton College on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Sears studied English and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Sears was among 459 to graduate with the Carleton Class of 2019.

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 20, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate honored the Iowa County Information Technology organization (ICIT) with a prestigious award for its assistance with improving election cybersecurity across the state. Sec Pate presented a National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion Award to the group during their annual conference on Thursday in West Des Moines.
