PEORIA, ILLINOIS (May 7, 2019) — Kadie Klauer of Reynolds, Illinois, was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award-Bronze during the annual Student Leadership Awards at Bradley University.

The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes United States citizens and lawfully admitted, permanent residents of the United States who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period. Bronze is for 100-174 horus.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 7, 2019) — Today, US Department of Education officials announced four Iowans have been named to the 55th class of US Presidential Scholars, which recognizes 161 high-school seniors across the country for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 7, 2019) — State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald announced on May 7, 2019, the State refinanced a portion of Iowa's IJOBS bonds in order to save the State money. The State sold new bonds and used the proceeds to pay off the bonds that were issued in 2009. The borrowing-rate came in at 2.64%, nearly 2% less than the original bonds. "This transaction is a lot like refinancing your house at a lower interest-rate.

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS (May 7, 2019) — A critical bill for Illinois patients will be heard May 8 by the Senate Insurance Committee in Springfield. Led by chief sponsor Senator Laura Fine (D-Glenview), HB2174 requires that health insurers offer co-pay only options for prescription drugs, reducing the up-front burden of deductibles and helping patients be able to better plan and budget for their health-care expenses.

IOWA CITY, IOWA (May 7, 2019) — Brett Conine and Humberto Castellanos combined to record the fifth shutout of the season for the Quad Cities River Bandits as they defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 6-0 at the University of Iowa’s Banks Field on Tuesday night.  The win was the eighth in a row for the Bandits, with all eight coming away from Modern Woodmen Park.
