DES MOINES, IOWA (February 23, 2019) — In response to the news that former Governor and US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will not seek the Democratic nomination for US Senate in 2020 against Joni Ernst, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price issued the following statement:

WASHINGTON DC (February 22, 2019) — The congressional budget resolution should establish the nation’s priorities, the approach to financing them, and a plan to ensure the nation is on a fiscally responsible track. We recommend that Congress adheres to the following principles when crafting a budget resolution:

Set a meaningful fiscal goal, and put forward a plan to achieve it

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 22, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds and legislative Republicans are determined to stick with Iowa’s troubled privatized Medicaid.

We must, therefore, make urgently needed improvements to ensure Iowans get the services they need; pay health care providers correctly and on time; and give Iowans more decision-making power in how Medicaid is run, rather than employees of out-of-state, for-profit companies.

MANKATO, MINNESOTA (February 22, 2019) — The Academic High Honor and Honor lists (Dean's lists) for the past fall semester at Minnesota State University, Mankato have been announced by Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Marilyn Wells. Among 3,334 students, a total of 875 students qualified for the High Honor List by achieving a 4.0 straight "A" average, while 2,461 students earned a 3.5 to 3.99 average to qualify for the Honor List.

JOHNSTON, IOWA (February 22, 2019) — Schools across Iowa have the opportunity to receive a new water-bottle filling-station through the Rethink Your Drink program, funded by the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation. Selected schools will have an old drinking fountain replaced with a new Elkay water-fountain/bottle-filling station and also receive water-bottles and toothbrushes for all students and staff.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 21, 2019) — Leaders with WesleyLife of Johnston, Iowa, and Genesis Health System of Davenport, Iowa, today announced “WellSpire” as the name of the new entity that is being formed by the partnership of the two organizations.

DES MOINES, IOWA (February 22, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds announced her appointment of Alan Heavens as district court judge in Judicial Election District 1A yesterday.   Heavens, of Garnavillo, Iowa, received his undergraduate degree from the University of St Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota, and his law degree from the University of St Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He currently serves as the Clayton County Attorney.
