ISU Extension and Outreach publication highlights 57 species of mammals found in Iowa

AMES, Iowa – Wildlife is everywhere in Iowa. From the tiny masked shrew to the iconic white-tailed deer, mammals of all different sizes call this state home.

RAGBRAI® sponsors a kid’s art contest for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Davenport is the ending town for this year’s ride across Iowa for 20,000 cyclists arriving on July 28. Our community’s winner will go on to be entered in the statewide contest with the grand prize winner receiving $350.

Davenport, Iowa (April 19, 2018) – It’s 100 days until RAGBRAI reaches Davenport!  RAGBRAI is the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.  2018 is the 46th annual non-competitive bicycle ride across the state on July 22-28 for thousands of cyclists and their support crews from around the world.  The route on the last day will take riders from Iowa City to Davenport.

(ROCK ISLAND, IL) This year marks ten years since NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Initiative was founded by Jodie Kavensky. Named in memory of her mother and aunt, who both passed of ovarian cancer, Jodie made it her life mission to empower women to survive this lethal disease.

Davenport, Iowa – The Veterans of Underage Military Service (VUMS) hold their 26th Annual Reunion on April 23-25, 2018, at the Best Western Plus Steeplegate Inn in Davenport, Iowa.  This organization is composed of men and women who enlisted in a U.S. military service before being of legal age to do so.  While many enlisted at age 15 or 16, a good number did so as early as 12, and some were in combat at age 13.

Niabi Zoo to host one of the Quad Cities largest Earth Day celebrations April 21-22

Niabi and ten other local environmental organizations will be in attendance.

COAL VALLEY, Ill. (April 16, 2018) – Celebrate Earth Day and learn how individual actions can make a big difference for wildlife and wild places during Niabi Zoo’s Earth Day celebration weekend, April 21 and April 22.

A Group of QC organizations is sponsoring a FREE MINORITY HEALTH CONFERENCE, April 21, 2018 at Central High School in Davenport, 1120 Main Street Davenport Iowa, lunch is included. Registration for the event will begin at 9:00 AM and the conference will begin at 10 AM. Bus transportation is available from various locations in the Quad Cities.

Over the past several weeks, there has been a significant increase in the local distribution of recruitment flyers by the Neo-Nazi White Supremacist hate group, the National Alliance. The mission of One Human Family QCA is “to welcome & protect the life, dignity, and human rights of all people in all places in our community.” This is our current response to these recruitment efforts.
