Two bills will help reduce the number of local units of government, but more resident empowerment needed

OAK BROOK (Aug. 14, 2017) – Today, Gov. Bruce Rauner signed Senate Bill 3 and House Bill 607, two bills that enable local officials to consolidate units of local government.

CHICAGO (Aug. 14, 2017) – Gov. Bruce Rauner released the following statement regarding education funding reform negotiations:

“Today, we are calling on the four legislative leaders to meet as quickly as possible on school funding reform.

CHICAGO (Aug. 14, 2017) - “The deadly violence in Charlottesville this weekend is abhorrent and absolutely an act of domestic terrorism. Racism, hatred and violence have no place in our society. The individuals responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The Rock Island Art Guild is returning to its roots in hosting an outdoor painting event at Hauberg Estate—the same place where, in 1968, the newly-formed guild held one of its earliest outdoor shows. Artists will be stationed at several locations on the Hauberg grounds in order to capture the estate from different angles. Young Sprouts Rise Above at the Iowa State Fair Riley Competition

DES MOINES, IA (08/14/2017) (readMedia)-- Five talented Sprout division acts (ages 2-12) have advanced to the semi-final round in Bill Riley's 58th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Each act will perform again on Thursday, August 17, Friday, August 18 or Saturday, August 19.

International Gent Claims Mr. Legs Title at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/14/2017) (readMedia)-- John Johansson of Stockholm, Sweden was awarded the Overall Champion title in the Mr. Legs contest held Saturday on the Bud Light Stage at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Beyond overall leg appearance, several leg divisions were judged during the contest, including tannest, hairiest and thinnest legs.
