Rock Island, IL– The Quad City Federation of Labor will be hosting the 22nd Annual East Central Iowa - North Western Illinois AFL-CIO Hall of Fame Banquet at the Radisson Quad City Plaza Hotel in Downtown Davenport on Friday, October 11th. The event begins at 6pm with a cocktail hour, and the program begins at 7pm. The purpose of this event is to honor long-time labor leaders for their life-long service to their local unions, and the Labor Movement, by inducting them into the coveted AFL-CIO Hall of Fame. This year, in addition to the Hall of Fame induction, we will be honoring Dan Larson, a retiree from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 145, with the prestigious Robert E. Gibson Community Service Award that will be presented to him by Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael Carrigan.

This year`s Inductees into the Hall of Fame will be:

Sister Vera Kelly - United Steelworkers Local 105

Brother Thomas Esparza - American Federation of Government Employees Local 15

Brother John Honeycutt - United Food and Commercial Workers Local 431

Each year, our Congressional delegates from the bi-state region are invited to speak to the over five hundred attendees, including: Union Presidents, Business Managers, Union members, community dignitaries and local elected officials. We anticipate the attendance this year will be higher than any year prior. Invited members of Congress include : Senator Tom Harkin, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, Congressman Dave Loebsack, and Congressman Bruce Braley.

September 19^th - LeClaire Information Center Celebrates One Year of Operation! Join us for our Open House & Volunteer Recognition! Since our Grand Opening on August 3^rd 2012, the LeClaire Information Center has welcomed over 17,500 guests, including tourists, local residents, potential business owners and has provided information about local attractions, businesses, business opportunities, and other points of interest. Operated by the LeClaire Office of Tourism and located at 122. N. Cody Road, the Center is open Mon-Sat 10-4 and Sun noon-4. On Thursday, September 19^th from 4-6pm, the public is invited to an Open House celebrating our "First Anniversary." The event will include light refreshments and the opportunity to discover what the LIC offers residents and tourists.  The festivities will conclude with a short program honoring our volunteers. We are always looking for additional volunteers! Plus, Pleasant Valley High School students (accompanied by a parent) can apply their volunteer hours to the school's "service learning" requirement for graduation.  Training (for students and adults) only takes about an hour and volunteers are able to schedule hours through online scheduling software. Primitive Cottage is collecting food for the Princeton Presbyterian Church's Food Pantry which is in great need of food donations. They have helped alot of people, and now they need our help.  Donations can be dropped off at Primitive Cottage in LeClaire. Please check the expiration date on items because anything that has expired can't be given away.

Meet and greet Pastor Melody any Wednesday from 1-3 pm at Happy Joe's. Pastor Melody from First Presbyterian Church of LeClaire, will be at Happy Joe's in LeClaire, every Wednesday, from 1-3 pm, sipping on a soda, reading and waiting to visit with you and your friends. Stop by and say hi. Or, if you have a prayer request or a question, just let her know. Meals for Seniors at the church every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12 noon. ASL Interpretation Made Possible By Funding from Old Capitol Sertoma Club

The Coralville Center for the Performing Arts and City Circle Acting Company of Coralville are pleased to announce that American Sign Language interpretation will be available at five upcoming performances. Funding for this program comes from Old Capitol Sertoma Club.

The included productions are:

·        Monty Python's Spamalot, Sunday, October 27 at 2pm

·        A Christmas Carol, Sunday, December 15 at 2pm

·        Love, Loss, and What I Wore, Sunday, February 16 at 2pm

·        Jesus Christ Superstar, Sunday, April 6 at 2pm

·        Teen Musical production TBD, June 15

Old Capitol Sertoma is a service club of members from the Iowa City-Coralville area. The club's stated civic goal is to provide assistance and aid to those with hearing, speech, and other communicative disorders. In addition to assisting individuals with hearing and speech devices, the club locally provides funding and assistance for programs and devices at agencies and organizations such as the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic, the Center for Disabilities and Development at the University of Iowa, the Englert and Riverside Theatres, the University of Iowa theatres, and the Iowa City Public Library. The club's other civic purpose is to educate regarding our country's national heritage through sponsorship of an essay contest each year for eighth grade students in Johnson County that focuses on current issues that tie into our country's national heritage.  Old Capitol Sertoma also provided funding for the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts' assisted listening devices.

Owned and operated by the City of Coralville, the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts is dedicated to enriching the community and contributing to the vitality of Coralville by offering an accessible, affordable venue for a variety of performances, presentations, and public and private events.  The 472 seat theater opened August 26, 2011 and has hosted performances from City Circle Acting Company, Orchestra Iowa, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Dan Knight, Lola Astanova, Lorie Line, Judy Carmichael, Jim McDonough, Nolte Academy of Dance, and many others.  Coralville schools are also able to use the Center free of charge up to three times per year; 16 school events took place at the Center in the 2012-2013 school year. The Center was named 2012 Member of the Year by the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
