Niabi Zoo Receives Illinois State Tourism Grant for New Painted Dog Exhibit

COAL VALLEY, ILLINOIS (August 10, 2022) — The Niabi Zoo is pleased and excited to announce being named a recipient of the prestigious Illinois State Tourism grant. The grant will fund our new Painted Dog exhibit, an important component in our Niabi Zoo Masterplan. The total grant award is 233,000 dollars, and will cover almost half of the cost of the exhibit.

Maddie Poppe to Perform Christmas Music in the Event Center

DAVENPORT, IOWA (August 9, 2022) — Folk Singer Maddie Poppe is set to perform music from her Christmas from Home EP in the Event Center on Sunday, December 11, 2022, 7PM. Tickets are $30 plus applicable online/phone-ticketing fee. (This fee is waived when tickets are purchased at The Market Gift Shop inside Rhythm City Casino Resort.) All ages are welcome to attend. Donor Support Exceeds $2.8 Million for ReLeaf Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (August 9, 2022) — In the two years since a powerful derecho devastated the Cedar Rapids tree canopy, donors have contributed more than $2.8 million to support the ReLeaf Cedar Rapids recovery plan in a fundraising campaign led by Trees Forever. This (ie contributions) is added to $10 million previously committed by the City of Cedar Rapids.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s State Fair Booth to Offer Straw Poll, Voter-Registration Drive, Business Start-Up Information, and Opportunity to Meet “Superheroes” from August 11-21

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 9, 2022) — Secretary of State Paul Pate’s annual Iowa State Fair Straw Poll is back for 2022 and will allow fairgoers to vote for their preferred candidate in the Governor, US Senate, and US House races. The poll will be conducted on iPads at the Secretary’s booth located inside the Varied Industries Building during the Iowa State Fair from August 11-21.

All fairgoers, candidates, and campaigns are invited to visit the booth to cast their vote.

Google Announces $150,000 Grant to Iowa STEM Council to Support STEM Education

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 9, 2022) — As part of a continued commitment to supporting computer science education in Iowa, today Google announced a $150,000 grant to the Iowa STEM Council to help support the council’s mission to increase awareness, achievement, and interest in STEM education with students in Iowa. To highlight this and other computer science education efforts in the state, Google will host a “Coding Carnival” at the Iowa State Fair with hands-on learning opportunities.

Ascentra Credit Union Foundation Grants $45,000 to Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois

BETTENDORF, IOWA (August 9, 2022) — The Ascentra Credit Union Foundation (ACUF) has partnered with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois since 2020 to help fund the Girl Scouts Community Outreach Series. This series directly supports more than 1,100 at-risk girls in the underserved areas of Moline, Rock Island, Davenport, and Muscatine by building courage, confidence, and character through a Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
