MOLINE, ILLINOIS (April 22, 2021) Following a thorough review of applications by numerous volunteer scholarship committees, 28 students will receive $61,900 in scholarships this year from the various endowed funds administered at the Moline Foundation. This year’s scholarship winners include:

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 22, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, April 11, and Saturday, April 17, was 7,255, an increase of 2,250 from last week’s adjusted numbers. There were 6,673 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 582 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state.

MOLINE, ILLINOIS (April 21, 2021) — March 2021 was the Quad Cities International Airport’s busiest month since early 2020. Restored routes and additional spring break service gave the QC Airport a boost of nearly 12,000 passengers from the previous month. This improved traffic to a 46% decline over 2019, compared to the 56-60% decline that has been the norm for the past several months.

MUSCATINE, IOWA (April 21, 2021) — Muscatine will be one of three stops on the “Dance into Spring” tour, bringing together Ballet Des Moines and Hancher Auditorium. The free outdoor performance will take place on the Muscatine Riverfront on May 2, 5:30PM, and will feature company dancers from Ballet Des Moines, performers from the University of Iowa’s Dance Company, and special guests from the acclaimed Miami City Ballet.

JOHNSTON, IOWA (April 21, 2021) — High-school students in Iowa can get a unique glimpse into the world of television production and public media while gaining practical and valuable experience in the industry. In order to broaden opportunities for minority and female-identifying high-school students, Iowa PBS is offering a television production mentorship program for summer 2021.

MOLINE, ILLINOIS (April 21, 2021) — The Black Box Theatre in downtown Moline presents Love, Loss and What I Wore, opening April 22 and running through May 1. IOWA CITY, IOWA (April 21, 2021) — Goodwill of the Heartland has partnered with Google and Coursera to offer a self-paced five-course online class where students can learn concrete skills that top employers are hiring for right now. By investing only ten hours a week, students can earn the IT Support Certificate in less than six months.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 21, 2021) — The annual bi-state Red, White, and Boom fireworks display in downtown Davenport and Rock Island will return this year and is scheduled for July 3, 2021. Red, White, and Boom is the largest fireworks display in the Quad Cities, shot from two barges in the middle of the Mississippi River.
