MONMOUTH, ILINOIS (April 16, 2020) — Members of the Monmouth College Class of 2019 are excelling in the workplace and in the next stage of their educational careers.

PELLA, IOWA (April 16, 2020) — Central College has announced it has temporarily waived ACT or SAT testing requirements for students applying for admission in Fall 2020.

The change in policy was made because testing for the ACT and SAT has been suspended nationally because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Central only requires students submit high school transcripts.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 16, 2020) — The number of initial claims in Iowa reported by the US Department of Labor, filed between Sunday, April 5, and Saturday, April 11, was 46,356. There were 43,862 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 2,494 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state.

The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims is 128,819.

BETTENDORF, IOWA (April 15, 2020) — A second round of grants have been awarded to Quad Cities-area nonprofits supporting the community’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Every single dollar granted has been made possible from donations to the Quad Cities Disaster Recovery Fund at the Quad Cities Community Foundation.

LENEXA, KANSAS (April 15, 2020) — The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking grant applications through the Children's Healthy Learning Environments Grant Initiative from states, federally-recognized tribes, universities, local governments, non-profits, and other groups to support children’s environmental health in school and child-care settings. These grants advance children’s environmental health by providing education, training, tools, and capacity building.

PELLA, IOWA (04/15/2020) — Iowa Campus Compact has announced its winners of the 2020 Engaged Campus Awards and the list includes two nominated by Central College.

Kellie Gorsche Markey, a 1988 graduate of Central who founded Dorothy's House in Des Moines, Iowa, received the Alumni Leadership Award. OLAS, Central's Organization of Latinx-American Students, received the Presidents' Student Leadership Award.

WASHINGTON DC (April 15, 2020) — The Department of Homeland Security, with the support of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), has announced a temporary final rule to change certain H-2A requirements to help US agricultural employers avoid disruptions in lawful agricultural-related employment, protect the nation’s food supply-chain, and lessen impacts from the coronavirus (COVID-19) public-health emergency.
