Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) Announces Funding Opportunity for 2024 Summer Youth Internship Program Grants

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 24, 2024) — Iowa Workforce Development is announcing a new round of available funding to help jumpstart youth internship programs in high-demand fields this summer. Approximately $250,000 in state funding will be made available to support internships for Iowans between the ages of fourteen and 24.

Iowa’s Unemployment Rate Decreases to 3.2 Percent in December

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 19, 2024) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate decreased slightly to 3.2 percent in December amid hiring gains in both construction and manufacturing. The state’s jobless rate was 3.3 percent last month and 3.0 percent one year ago. The US unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent.

The report measures IBC member expectations for sales, capital spending, and employment for the next six months. If the index measures above fifty, sentiment is positive. Planned Parenthood North Central State Workers with Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Reach Tentative Agreement for First Union Contract

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA (January 10, 2024) — Late Monday night, Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS) and the union member bargaining team for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare Minnesota and Iowa reached a tentative agreement (TA) on a historic first contract for the 430 workers who voted in 2022 to form their union. Monday was the 37th bargaining session between the two sides and the final session lasted nearly fourteen hours, ending at 1AM.
