DES MOINES, IOWA (March 11, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, February 28, and Saturday, March 6, was 5,531, an increase of 1,315 from last week’s adjusted numbers.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 5, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, February 21, and Saturday, February 27, was 4,452, a decrease of 740 from last week’s adjusted numbers. There were 3,949 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 503 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state. The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims was 49,140, an increase of 382 from the previous week.

DES MOINES, IOWA (February 23, 2021) — Iowans spoke out against cuts to unemployment being proposed in the Iowa House and Senate. These Iowans oppose SSB 1172 and HSB 203, which would institute a one-week waiting-period, reduces benefits for many families on unemployment, and cuts thirteen weeks from the number of weeks that someone who is the victim of a plant- or business-closing can collect.
