In addition, other worker protections need to be put in place as soon as possible.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 17, 2020) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate increased to 3.7 percent in March. The state’s jobless rate was 2.7 percent one year ago. The US unemployment rate rose to 4.4 percent in March.

WASHINGTON DC (April 16, 2020) — Word that the $350 billion in funds in the Paycheck Protection Program dried out is upsetting to small-business owners across the state, as well as the head of NFIB, or the National Federal of Independent Business, the state’s leading small-business organization.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 16, 2020) — The number of initial claims in Iowa reported by the US Department of Labor, filed between Sunday, April 5, and Saturday, April 11, was 46,356. There were 43,862 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 2,494 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state.

The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims is 128,819.

IOWA FALLS, IOWA (April 15, 2020) — Four Iowa school districts were presented with awards this week for their commitment to safe working environments. The awards further recognize the districts for their collaboration with EMC Insurance Companies (EMC) to prevent employee injuries and to control workers' compensation expenses.
