DES MOINES, IOWA (May 22, 2020) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate increased to 10.2 percent in April. The state’s jobless rate was 2.7 percent one year ago. The US unemployment rate rose to 14.7 percent in April.
DES MOINES, IOWA (May 21, 2020) — The number of initial claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, May 10, and Saturday, May 16, was 13,040. There were 12,011 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 1,029 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state.
The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims was 187,375.
Unemployment-insurance benefit-payments totaled $50,962,509.01 for the same week.
DES MOINES, IOWA (May 19, 2020) — In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald wants to remind Iowans to monitor their assets to prevent them from becoming unclaimed property. The Treasurer's Office receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property every year, simply due to a misspelled name or an out-of-date address. "With the challenges Iowans are facing today, I understand how difficult it can be to review your assets during this time," said Fitzgerald.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 13, 2020)— Small business optimism took another dive in April, falling 5.5 points to 90.9, with owners expressing certainty the economy will weaken in the near-term, but expecting it to improve over the next six months. The Optimism Index has fallen 13.6 points over the last two months, with nine of 10 Index components declining in April and one improving.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI (May 7, 2020) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has obligated $78 million to the State of Iowa to help reimburse eligible expenses for emergency protective measures that the state has incurred as a result of its response to COVID-19.
DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 7, 2020) — The Downtown Davenport Partnership, a division of the Quad Cities Chamber, today announced changes to Street Fest to be held July 24-25, 2020. Instead of hosting a large festival on 2nd Street in Davenport, the event will encourage people to support downtown businesses that normally benefit from the festival’s foot traffic by shopping, eating, drinking, playing and, in the case of hotels, staying in downtown.
