US Department of Labor Notifies Iowa Workforce Development That, Due to Economic Recovery, State Extended Benefits Program Will End October 31, 2020

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 23, 2020) — Due to Iowa's economic recovery, the US Department of Labor has notified Iowa that it has "triggered off" of the unemployment Extended Benefits (EB) program, making Iowans no longer eligible for the program. This means Iowa's insured unemployment rate has averaged below 5% for the last 13 weeks.

Iowa Workforce Development Reports Initial Unemployment Insurance Claims Filed for Week of 11 – 17 October 2020

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 22, 2020) — The number of initial claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, October 11, and Saturday, October 17, was 4,662. There were 4,019 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 643 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state. The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims was 41,967, a decrease of 4,442 from the previous week.

Iowa's Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.7 Percent in September

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 20, 2020) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.7 percent in September. This is a decline from August's rate of 6.0 percent. The US unemployment rate dropped to 7.9 percent in September.

Director Beth Townsend Appointed to US Department of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 16, 2020) — Iowa Workforce Development has announced that Director Beth Townsend has been appointed by Robert Wilkie, US Secretary of Veterans Affairs, to serve as a member of the Department of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans (ACMV). Dir Townsend’s appointment is effective immediately and will continue through June 2022.
