Hy-Vee Raises $360,846 during The Great American Milk Drive

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (April 29, 2019) — Today, Hy-Vee Inc announced that generous customer-donations and its corporate participation during The Great American Milk Drive helped raise $360,846 to purchase much-needed milk for local food-banks throughout Hy-Vee’s eight-state region.

Social Security Only 16 Years from Insolvency

WASHINGTON DC (April 22, 2019) — The Social Security and Medicare Trustees released their annual reports today, showing the Medicare Part A trust fund will be insolvent in seven years, the Social Security retirement fund in 15 years, and the theoretical combined Social Security retirement and disability trust-funds in 16 years. Medicare Part B and D are also projected to continue growing faster than the economy. All these programs face large and growing shortfalls.

Iowa’s Unemployment Rate Remains at 2.4 Percent in March

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 19, 2019) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment-rate remained at 2.4 percent in March. The state’s jobless rate was 2.7 percent one year ago. The US unemployment-rate remained at 3.8 percent in March.

US Beef, Poultry, and Egg Products Gain New Market Access in Tunisia

WASHINGTON DC (April 17, 2019) — US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced today that the government of Tunisia and the United States have finalized US export certificates to allow imports of US beef, poultry, and egg products into Tunisia. This announcement follows meetings between US and Tunisian officials on the safety and wholesomeness of US beef, poultry, and egg products.

At the rate the national-debt is rising, interest payments — the fastest-growing part of the federal budget — will be bigger than Medicaid by next year and the military by 2025.
