NEW MISS IOWA USA AND MISS IOWA TEEN USA CROWNED

Newton, Iowa - The 2016 MISS IOWA USA and MISS IOWA TEEN USA Pageants took place Sunday night at the Newton High School Auditorium in Newton. A capacity crowd filled the auditorium on Sunday evening for the pageant finals, where the panel of judges selected Alissa Morrison of Davenport as MISS IOWA USA 2016, and Hannah Bockhaus of Tripoli as MISS IOWA TEEN USA 2016.

Both titleholders will now advance and compete next year at the MISS USA and MISS TEEN USA national pageants.

The competition, which is held annually, consists of three proportional segments: evening gown, swimwear and interview. Eligible young women must be between the ages of 14 and 26 and be unmarried residents of Iowa in order to compete in the pageant.

Alissa and Hannah will each receive thousands of dollars in prizes and awards. Most importantly, they will have the opportunity to compete for the national titles of MISS USA and MISS TEEN USA this coming year.

Alissa will compete for the title of MISS USA 2016 on the live national telecast of MISS USA, and Hannah will compete for the title of MISS TEEN USA 2016 at the national pageant next year. In addition, the new MISS USA will go on to represent the United States in the MISS UNIVERSE competition, which is televised in over 130 countries worldwide.

The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) uses its global grassroots reach to empower women to be self-confident and strive to be their personal best. MUO believes that every woman should be "Confidently Beautiful." The MISS UNIVERSE®, MISS USA®, and MISS TEEN USA® beauty pageants provide an international platform through dedicated partnerships with charities, sponsors, and brands around the world. Quad-Cities-based radio-style variety show features live music and comedy

TIPTON, Iowa? The Bucktown Revue is returning to the Tipton stage. The Quad-Cities-based music and variety show will return to Tipton at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Tipton High School auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Hardacre Theater Preservation Association (HTPA), and proceeds will benefit the "Save the Hardacre Theater" campaign.

The show, appropriate for all ages, is styled like a live radio broadcast, like Garrison Keillor's legendary "A Prairie Home Companion" or the Grand Ole Opry. It features a variety of musical acts, comedy skits, monologues and even performances from local players.

"The Bucktown Revue is not only a terrific entertainment, the creators go out of their way to personalize the show for each audience, from the music to the dialogue" said Greg Brown, HTPA president. "It's a one-of-a-kind program that's a lot of fun for young and old alike."

The Bucktown Revue is an old-fashioned radio-style variety program, performed live in front of an audience. It celebrates Mississippi River Valley folk music and culture through a combination of music, storytelling, poetry and humor. The show is performed monthly at the Nighswander Junior Theater in Davenport.

Tickets for the Bucktown Revue's Tipton show can be purchased at the event. Tickets are $12 each.

"It's always fun to take the Bucktown Revue on the road," said Michael Romkey, producer of the Bucktown Revue. "The show is very Midwestern in its approach and values. The entertainment is casual, down-home and delivered with a sense of humor. We're real fans of the Hardacre Theatre and delighted to be able to help the cause. The Hardacre is one of those wonderful old theaters?just a gem. We're happy to know an effort is being made to preserve it for other generations."

For more information about this event, go to the HTPA website at thehardacre.org. To find out more about the Bucktown Revue, go to bucktownrevue.com.

This Sunday at the Homestead Church

The Amana Heritage Society will host a concert by The Davenport Zither Ensemble of the German American Heritage Center at the Homestead Church Museum, 4210 V Street,  on Sunday, October 11 at 2:00 PM.

The Davenport Zither Ensemble has been playing together for thirteen years.  Beginning with four zither players, under the able guidance and direction of Donald Ockelmann, the ensemble has had a simple mission statement: "To encourage and grow new zither players."  They have continued this mission with their zither-to-loan program and currently have ten zither players, making them the largest community zither group in the United States.

The ensemble practices every Saturday at the German American Heritage Center in Davenport, Iowa, where they also perform several concerts a year.  They enjoy coming to the Amana Colonies to share some German favorites as well as some American standards.

The concert is free and open to the public.  Free will donations will be accepted.  For further information contact the Amana Heritage Society at 319-622-3567or amanaheritage@southslope.net.
