DAVENPORT, IA - JANUARY 2016 - Gilda's Club Quad Cities CEO Claudia Robinson is retiring after 18 years in the position.  Sally Werner, current Gilda's Club board member, will replace Robinson as CEO effective January 6, 2016.

Robinson was hired as Gilda's Club Quad Cities' first CEO (and first employee) in 1997 after responding to an ad in the newspaper. "The ad told the story of a place that would reach out to families affected by a cancer diagnosis. It would be free of charge, non residential, and available for men, women, and children," Robinson said. ""Responding to the ad was the best decision I ever made."

Robinson has been an integral part of the organization, not only providing leadership on a local level, but serving as chair of the Cancer Support Community Affliliate Council for many years.

Werner is leaving an Executive Director, Home Care and Hospice position with Trinity Health (HQ Michigan). She has worked in cancer care for the last 18 years in both small and large health care organizations.

"We are honored to have such a respected and intelligent person such as Sally join our organization, said Melissa Wright, Program Director. "With her background in cancer care and her compassionate, caring personality, Sally will fit right in."

Werner holds a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Health Administration. Her first involvement in Gilda's Club was in Philadelphia, and she eventually joined the Board of Directors in the Quad Cities in 2014.

Gilda's Club provides hope, education and support to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through professionally led support groups, informational workshops and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills to improve the quality of their lives and make them better partners with their medical professionals. All programs and services are provided free of charge to our members. Gilda's Club Quad Cities is affiliated with the largest professionally led network of cancer support worldwide, the Cancer Support Community.

Underwear Because We Care is excited to announce the initial results of this year's underwear campaign. The campaign which began on October 1, 2015 and concluded on November 1, 2015 exceeded our goal of 4500 and resulted in 4600 items being collected and distributed through 25 organizations that provide services to the needy and homeless. In addition, there are several collection/drop sites that have chosen to collect after the campaign and we now anticipate, for the first time, a second distribution in the mid-February time frame. We have established a goal of 1500 additional items for this second distribution.

The campaign collects packages of new underwear; underpants, undershirts, bras and socks for Women, Children (both girls and boys) and Men. With winter having arrived, we are looking to collect both year round and winter underwear. We will also collect clean, serviceable prosthetic bras for distribution to women in need.

For those who wish to donate money rather than directly purchase underwear, contributions may be sent to Underwear Because We Care, PO. Box 2242, Davenport Iowa 52809. We are a 501c(3) so your donation may be tax deductible.

All underwear collected or purchased, will be distributed to organizations that provide shelter and services for the needy and homeless citizens in the Quad Cities.

If you are interested in helping or have any questions, please call Grant Curtis at 563-528-0835 or email underwearBWC@gmail.com with a subject line of Underwear Campaign.

Members of the Moline Rotary Club donated 523 mittens, gloves, scarves and hats this week to help keep children in the Moline School District warm during the coming winter months.  These items will be donated to ten Moline-Coal Valley Elementary Schools and for use by students who do not have warm weather attire or who have forgotten theirs at home.

"Moline Rotarians continue to give back to the community through programs such as Warm Hands from Kind Hearts," says Tom Bracke, President of Moline Rotary. "I appreciate the generosity of Moline Rotarians to help make sure younger students in Moline and Coal Valley public schools can stay warm this winter".

2015 marks the 6th Annual "Warm Hands from Kind Hearts" initiative within Moline Rotary.  The Moline Rotary Community Needs Committee continuously identifies additional opportunities to impact the citizens within the city of Moline and the Rock Island County area. "Moline Rotary and our 120 members celebrated our 100th anniversary of service to the community in 2014 and we are continuing our caring support into the next centruy," said Bracke. QUAD CITIES, USA:  A gold coin was dropped in the red kettle on November 27th and a half-ounce gold coin on December 19th in Quad Cities so far this Red Kettle Season. In addition, we received vintage gold, pearl and gemstone jewelry placed in the kettles. We plan to have the jewelry appraised on Monday.

These treasures will help fund the life-changing programs offered to the Quad Cities and are an unconventional way to make a donation to The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities.

Major Gary Felton explains, "Part of the fun of every Red Kettle Season is you never know just what will be placed in a kettle by a generous community member."

The Red Kettle Campaign's goal is $815,000 and have currently raised $518,000. The Red Kettle Campaign runs until December 24th.

Quad Cities, USA: The Salvation Army is pleased to announce that VON MAUR, the locally owned high-end department store, will sponsor the fifth annual Red Kettle Match Days this weekend.

On December 18th and 19th, VON MAUR will make a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10,000 to Quad Cities red kettle donations at Northpark and Southpark Malls.  The five locations include two large red kettles inside of the malls.

Donations are needed to help meet this campaign's goal of $815,000.  We are currently at $459,000 of that goal. The Salvation Army asks the community to take VON MAUR up on their challenge in order to maximize gifts made to The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities.

Major Gary Felton, Quad Cities Coordinator is "so pleased to partner again with such a notable and admired business in our community. The timing of this match weekend couldn't be any better our Red Kettle Campaign. I am confident we will meet our goal because of the generosity of the Quad City Community. We often see large checks, large bills and gold coins."

The Red Kettle campaign provides 60% of the annual budget used by The Salvation Army to provide people with their basic needs, warm shelter and nutritious food, new life skills, character building - anything necessary to help community members achieve healthy, productive living.
Quad Cities, USA: The Salvation Army is desperately seeking enough toys to save Christmas for thousands of less fortunate children in the Quad Cities.  The 2015 Angel Tree Toy Drive was planned to conclude on Dec. 14th. Due to the lack of toys, Angel Tree donations will be extended through Tuesday, December 15th!

The Salvation Army encourages people to add just one more child to their Christmas list...a child living in poverty.

ANGEL TREE Toy Collection sites are located at all four Quad City Wal-Marts, NorthPark Mall (JCPenney Court) and SouthPark Mall (near JCPenney Court) and ends December 15th. Mall times are 11am - 8pm daily, and 11am -- 5pm on Sunday.

Major Gary Felton, Quad Cities Coordinator for The Salvation Army, states that "Close to 1,500 families are depending on us.  Every child in our community should wake up Christmas morning to a new toy. This final week's hard work will hopefully be enough so we can let children know they are special on Christmas morning!"

Last year, thousands of toys were displayed at The Salvation Army's Toy Shop on the Christmas Assistance distribution days.  Parents are able to "shop" for their child's gift, and also receive a food box with the ingredients for a Christmas dinner
Quad Cities, USA: The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities will hold its Fifth Annual "Pack All Night" Event on Friday, December 11h.

Nov. 16 - 23: National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Gifts

Davenport, IA, Dec. 9, 2015–Nearly 59,000 children will soon experience the joy of Christmas, thanks to the Davenport and other Iowa communities. Residents packed empty shoeboxes with small items like toys, school supplies and hygiene items for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse that sends gifts to children living in difficult situations around the world.

For those who missed National Collection Week, you can still get involved. Through the Samaritan's Purse website, you can virtually "pack" a shoebox, allowing anyone with a computer or mobile device to provide a tangible gift to a child a world away.

At samaritanspurse.org/buildonline, visitors can select a child's age and gender, shop through an online selection of culturally relevant gifts, and finish by uploading a photo and writing a note of encouragement to the child who will receive it. After the shoeboxes are packed and sent by the Operation Christmas Child team, participants can discover where in the world their gifts will be delivered. It is a convenient yet meaningful way to join in a project that brings hope to children in need.

The virtual-packing tool also offers participants the option to challenge friends to participate or the opportunity to share the gift of giving through a shoebox gift card.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to more than 124 million children in more than 150 countries and territories. In 2015, Operation Christmas Child hopes to deliver gifts to another 11 million children.

For more information on how to participate in Operation Christmas Child, call 612-359-7025 or visit samaritanspurse.org/occ.
