SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS (February 14, 2019)  Strengthened by unprecedented political support, Illinois House legislators are uniting in a new Progressive Caucus to provide a better direction for the state.   Leaders and members of the new Progressive Caucus in the House today used a Statehouse news conference to discuss its platform of principles and legislative agenda for the 2019 session:

WASHINGTON DC (February 13, 2019) — Tomorrow, Thursday, February 14, on the anniversary of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, a group of US Senators, led by Charles "Chuck" Grassley of Iowa, will introduce legislation to proactively mitigate threats of violence on school campuses by expand the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center.

The tax filing season began just over two weeks ago. Despite the disruption of the temporary, partial government shutdown, the IRS reports that all systems are a go. Tax returns are being processed as normal and refunds are being sent out.

DES MOINES, IOWA (February 13, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds released the following statement after the Iowa Senate voted to advance preK-12 education funding:

WASHINGTON DC (February 13, 2019) — US Sens Chuck Grassley, Thom Tillis, John Cornyn, and Ben Sasse, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today introduced legislation requiring disclosure of third-party litigation financing agreements in civil lawsuits. Through such agreements, hedge-funds and other commercial lenders finance the cost of civil litigation in return for a portion of any recovery.
