On Saturday, September 6th, from 9:30am to 4pm, please join us for Vettes on the River (VOTR). This year's "Corvettes Only Car Show" will be held on the Levee, in LeClaire, Iowa. There will be more to do, more to eat, more to see, and best of all... more Corvettes. We are anticipating over 250 Corvettes. If you own a Corvette, this is a great event to show fellow Corvette enthusiasts your "pride & joy". New this year is parking on a first come first served basis and they will not be parking by "C" generation so you can park together with your club and friends.

The VOTR committee has planned lots of activities and there will be a Mayor's choice award and trophies for each "C" generation. They will also have a walking poker event, 50/50 drawings for charity, and a Driving Simulator to challenge your driving skills (competition trophies awarded). There are many restaurants, shops, and attractions close by for you to enjoy.

Vettes Supporting Vets... This year they are asking the Corvette attendees for an entry donation of $15 on the day of the event, if they are not already pre-registered. 100% of the charity proceeds from this event will go to the Vietnam Veterans of America Gateway Chapter 776 of the Quad Cities.

Also on Saturday, the LeClaire Riverfront Farmer's Market is 3-6pm in the Civic Center parking lot at 127 S. Cody Road. Special activities include free recycled art activity for the kids by Reusable Usables. Many great vendors will be in attendance with fresh, organic produce, sweet corn, baked goods, kettle corn, wood fire pizza, and much more!

Rock Island, IL: For more than 80 years, Rock Island and Moline sports fans have loyally cheered on their favorite Hometown Teams. Now the historic stadiums where our teams play will get their day in the spotlight. The Rock Island Library will offer a guided bus tour of Rock Island High School stadium, Wharton Field House, Browning Field and Augustana College's Lindberg Field (formerly Ericson) from 9:30 am to noon on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The free tour includes presentations on the historic features and significance of each stadium, along with running bus commentary by Thom Cornelis on 44 years in local sports broadcasting. Reservations are required for bus arrangements. To sign up, call the Rock Island Library at 309-732-7345, or use the registration option on the library's online calendar.

Reservations are requested by Monday, Sept. 22.  The event is free and open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and strollers are not recommended due to space limitations. The bus leaves from the Rock Island Main Library's 20th Street parking lot promptly at 9:30 am and returns by noon.

The free tour is part of Hometown Teams, which brings national and local sports history to the Rock Island Public Library from Sept. 13 to Oct. 25. Activities include a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Museum, local sports history displays and 12 free programs on local sports heritage.

"Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America, will be on view Saturday, Sept. 13 to Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Rock Island Library's Main Branch, 401 19th Street, Rock Island. The library will kick off the exhibit with a free opening day ceremony from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 13, with tailgate hot dogs and bands in the library's 20th Street parking lot. The event also includes a Saturday baseball story time, with Rascal the River Bandit, at 11:00 am in the Children's Room. The opening ceremony is free and open to the public.

"Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America" is part of Museum on Main Street, a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and the Illinois Humanities Council.

Pam Opolka, Board President, states, "We have a wonderful historic building overlooking the Mississippi and we thought this would be a good way to welcome in the fall season and enjoy lots of good company and conversation." The Princeton Community Center, located at 428 South River Drive, was built in 1908 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also known as the Boll's Building. It was owned by the Henry Boll's Family and housed a grocery store for approximately seventy years. This historic building also houses a theater where the Princeton Players and others perform.
