“Ballet Under the Stars,” June 8 through 10

Performing June 8 through 10, company members of Ballet Quad Cities bring their annual, eagerly awaited presentations of Ballet Under the Stars vignettes back to Rock Island's Lincoln Park. But this year, as Artistic Director Courtney Lyon explains, the outdoor stage will also be filled with many additional area talents sharing the spotlight with her company's professional dancers.

“Defining Dance: Distinctly Ballet Quad Cities,” April 20 and 21

Ali Hasan and Dancers in Company: “Collective Action,” April 5

On April 5, the Figge Art Museum will present a pair of special evening events exploring the principle of “collective action” – how individual energies can be united toward common goals – in the venue's 6 p.m. Scholar Talk with the University of Iowa's Dr. Ali Hanan, and, at 6:45 p.m., a performance by the touring student artists of the university troupe Dancers in Motion.

“Alice in Wonderland,” March 24

"Dracula," October 20 and 21

Making a Killing: Ballet Quad Cities Premieres "Murder Mystery at the Ballet," October 9 through 17 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral

With a foreboding Beethoven composition lending an incongruously somber air to the proceedings, Ballet Quad Cities' ensemble is rehearsing. The brightly lit studio space finds the 10 company members engaged in all manner of movement during these five minutes of Ludwig van: two male dancers tussling in the foreground; another male skulking in the background; a petite female gliding amongst her fellow dancers and voicelessly addressing one with an accusatory glare.
