Good morning.  Welcome everyone to this year’s second nominations hearing.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- On January 16, 2018, Oscar Lee Hall, Jr., age 41, formerly of Nichols, Iowa, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose to 33 months in prison after pleading guilty to failure to register as a sex offender, announced United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum.

Good morning. We have a full agenda today, and I understand we’ll need to have roll call votes on most of the nominees before us.

Along with HB 3904, law creates women’s division within Department of Corrections

LINCOLN (Jan. 16, 2018) — Gov. Bruce Rauner is building on his efforts to improve outcomes for individuals who are incarcerated in Illinois.

He toured Logan Correctional Center, the female inmate facility in Lincoln, just before signing House Bill 1479 and solidifying the creation of a new women’s division within the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC). 

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today made the following comments after the announcement that Senators Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) would become fellow committee members.

“I’d like to welcome Senator Booker and Senator Harris to the ranks of the Judiciary Committee. I look forward to finding common ground and working closely with them on the many important issues before us.”

CHICAGO (Dec. 22, 2017) — Gov. Bruce Rauner today granted 10 and denied 78 clemency petitions. 

This is the twenty-second set of petitions the governor has reviewed since taking office. Each person granted clemency has recently undergone a criminal background check through the Illinois State Police’s Law Enforcement Agencies Data System.

Des Moines, Iowa – On December 21, 2017, sentencings were completed in the federal prosecution of twenty defendants charged with drug trafficking, money laundering, obstruction, firearms, and immigration offenses stemming from the investigation of a multi-state drug trafficking organization, announced United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum.
