WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee today scheduled a hearing titled “Oversight of the Foreign Agents Registration Act and Attempts to Influence U.S. Elections: Lessons Learned from Current and Prior Administrations.”
Des Moines, July 12, 2017— The commission charged by the Iowa Supreme Court to identify and remove barriers to civil justice for low-income and disadvantaged Iowans has issued its initial report. The Access to Justice Commission report identifies and assesses the current and future needs of low-income Iowans in civil matters, makes short-term recommendations, and sets long term goals.
On June 15th the Scott County Sex Offender Task Force, along with members of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Corrections, the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations, the Bettendorf Police Department and the Davenport Police Department, conducted a sex offender compliance check operation. Des Moines, July 5, 2017— The Iowa Supreme Court named Todd Nuccio state court administrator for the Iowa Judicial Branch. The state court administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management of Iowa's state court system. Nuccio will replace David Boyd when Boyd retires September 7 after 40 years of continual service to the Iowa Judicial Branch.
SPRINGFIELD – Governor Bruce Rauner today granted ten and denied 104 clemency petitions.
This is the eighteenth set of petitions the governor has reviewed since taking office. Each person granted clemency has recently undergone a criminal background check through the Illinois State Police’s Law Enforcement Agencies Data System.
A granted clemency request for a pardon with expungement allows the petitioner to seek expungement of their conviction through the court system.
Des Moines, June 30, 2017 —Today is the last day of the 2016-17 Iowa Supreme Court adjudicative term. During the term, 117 cases were submitted to the court. The court decided 116 cases by written opinions and held one case over for resubmission next term.
