COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - On July 28, 2017, United States District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger sentenced Jeffrey B. Lackas, Stanley Szeto, and Daniel Cruz-Bonilla for conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. Lackas, Szeto, and Cruz-Bonilla were members of a drug trafficking organization responsible for the distribution of anabolic steroids and human-growth hormones throughout the country.

WASHINGTON – The Judiciary Committee has agreed to a request by Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS to provide a transcribed interview with committee staff and members.  As such, the committee will excuse Simpson from his legal obligation to attend Wednesday’s hearing following a subpoena issued last week compelling his presence.

DAVENPORT, IA - On July 24, 2017, United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose sentenced Aron Gaytan, 22, to 216 months in prison and Patrick Jay Plank, 51, to 120 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. On July 25, 2017, Judge Rose sentenced Robert Owen Knapp, 25, to 80 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein last night issued a subpoena to compel Paul Manafort’s presence at a public Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday regarding enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act and attempts to influence U.S. elections.

Washington – In an effort to improve data collecting methods at local law enforcement agencies, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) joins U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) in reintroducing the Walter Scott Notification Act. The bill would require states that receive federal funds for their law enforcement programs to properly document all relevant details surrounding any officer-related shootings that results in a civilian casualty.

DAVENPORT, IA- On July 20, 2017, Devonte Darnell Holston, 22, of Davenport, Iowa, was sentenced by Chief United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 180 months in prison for a Felon in Possession of a Firearm charge, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. Holston was ordered to serve a five-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment and to pay $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.

DAVENPORT, IA- On July 20, 2017, Casey John Blain, age 36, of Muscatine, Iowa, was sentenced by Chief United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 240 months in prison on the charge of Possession of Child Pornography and 240 months in prison on each of two counts of Distribution of Child Pornography announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. The three sentences will run concurrently.

DES MOINES, IA – On June 19, 2017, Nicole Lynn Sanders, age 33, formerly of South Carolina, appeared before United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose and was sentenced to five years probation for failure to pay child support, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel.
