This Week in Downtown Davenport: 1/9 - 1/15

Hear familiar songs and sounds not just once, but twice this week when River Music Experience hosts its Deja vu Rendezvous series. Tomorrow, hang out with the always popular Soul Storm, a group of funky musicians who cover everything from pop and rock to soul and R&B! Next Thursday, "Deadheads" can get their Grateful Dead fix with Terrapin Flyer. Be sure to support local band Deadroots at their final show on Saturday, too!

L&D 15 opens it's first monthly art exhibit on Saturday. Featuring a mixture of photographic collages, paintings, and mixed media sculptures, the Remnants of Earth exhibition by Tom Awad investigates both physical and emotional matters. Awad will also be in the shop on Sunday to give an artist talk during this week's Meet Your Maker event.

Venture School, a six week program for entrepreneurs, is coming to the Quad Cities! Ignite Quad Cities, the University of Iowa Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, and EICC have partnered together to provide entrepreneurs a program designed to accelerate the startup process while increasing entrepreneurs' chances for success. Attend one of two informational sessions next Thursday at the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce office downtown for more information.

Interested in setting both professional and personal goals? The Network: Young Professionals of the Quad Cities hosts this month's Network at Noon right here in downtown Davenport. Gain insight into how to set and how to achieve your goals in this interactive lunch session on Tuesday over at the Radisson Quad Cities Plaza. Icestravaganza 2015 is next Saturday, January 17! Head out to our new location at the Freight House to watch award-winning ice sculptor, Dawson List, carve ice sculptures live on site. This event will offer FREE indoor kid's activities including a cookie decorating station, crafts, story time, and more. The Farmers Market will remain open until 4 p.m. so you can shop local, too! Don't forget to hop to River's Edge for public ice skating, as well.

Later that evening, come on back for a night of heavy hors d'oeuvres from Front Street Brewery, a live DJ set by Just Let Go, a cash bar with a vodka luge, and good company during the Icestravaganza After-Party. After-Party tickets are only $10 and can be purchased here! The event is located on the second floor of the Freight House and its going to be a good time with a great river view!

This Week in Downtown Davenport: 1/2 - 1/8

This weekend marks the end of a set of blues workshops at River Music Experience. Enjoy the final show during Winter Blues Jam Saturday as participants demonstrate all they've learned during the sessions this past year. Bringing energy and originality with them, The Way Down Wanderers perform next Thursday in the Redstone Room. Prepare yourself for fast-paced, soulful tunes through the use of banjos, mandolins, and outstanding voices.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Truce in the Trenches Exhibition over at the German American Heritage Center before it closes on Sunday. But alas, when one exhibition closes, another opens! Venture out Tuesday and peruse 58 quilts with a river theme in the Messipi Threads River Quilts Exhibition. GAHC also hosts an Open House weekend featuring a showing of The Monuments Men at the Figge on Saturday and a lecture on Lt. George Stout on Sunday.

Get in touch with your artsy side this week by spending an evening at Re-Cre8 Studio. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you'll enjoy spending time with friends while following step by step instructions to create your very own masterpiece. Take a look at their monthly calendar to find a day and painting that suits you best!

Winter weather has finally arrived, which means it's almost time for Icestravaganza 2015! This year's event takes place on January 17th at the Freight House. Watch ice sculptures come to be right before your eyes, let the kids participate in arts and crafts, and wander the Farmers Market for fresh and local goods. In the evening, come on back for a night of food, drink, live music, and good fun for the ticketed Icestravaganza After Party. Stay tuned for information regarding after party ticket sales!

This Week in Downtown Davenport: 12/5 - 12/11

Hot chocolate and cookies, local entertainment, an appearance by Mr. & Mrs. Claus...find it all and more when the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train arrives at Modern Woodmen Park tomorrow! Supporting the Hunger Ministry of Churches United of the Quad City Area, admission to this event is one non-perishable food item. Head to Modern Woodmen at noon when the festivities begin and stick around for the arrival of the Holiday Train and a performance by Kira Isabella at 1:45 p.m.

The Quad City Symphony Orchestra proudly features six principal musicians in this weekend's Masterworks III. With pieces including horns, harps, and more, this elegant and playful performance will be one to remember. Be sure to mark your calendars for next weekend's Ballet Quad Cities: The Nutcracker performances Saturday and Sunday as well.

Members of the Figge Art Museum are in for a treat this weekend when the Figge hosts their Member Appreciation Weekend. Take advantage of free gift wrapping, free admission for two guests, and other specials. On Thursday, members are invited to attend the Holiday Member Dinner. Each ticket includes a buffet dinner plus a glass of wine or beer. Speaking of the holidays, get in touch with the spirit of the season with their Holiday Tours starting Sunday, too.

Are you ready for the spookiest time of the year? Halloween is but a day away, and what better way to celebrate than to head downtown for the 2014 Halloween Parade. The parade kicks off at 7 p.m., so venture down early and grab a bite to eat at one of our many delicious restaurants beforehand. Not sure where to watch from? Click here for a map of the route! Reminder: streets close at 5:00 p.m. Please utilize surrounding parking ramps for parking. If you're looking for a post-parade party, swing by Me & Billy's for their Halloween Bash.

The Halloween Parade isn't the only form of celebration tomorrow night. Hotel Blackhawk invites you to howl with them all night long during the Halloween Howling Ball. Dress in your Halloween best for a chance to win their costume contest with prizes ranging from cash to an iPad Air. There will also be a photo booth, live DJ, appetizers, and special spooky cocktails!

Alas, the end of October is here which means one thing- Final Friday! Peruse multiple styles of handmade art at Bucktown Center for the Arts during this month's Spooktacular Final Friday. Stop by Atom Studio + Gallery in honor of their Black & White: Shades of Gray gallery show opening tomorrow, too! This FREE event will also have complimentary refreshments and music.

All scares aside, the Quad City Symphony's Masterworks Series returns to the Adler this weekend featuring compelling violinist, Erin Keefe. Join River Music Experience tomorrow night for Moondance 2014 in the Redstone Room! Proceeds from this special event benefit area youth wishing to participate in music education at RME. Round up the kids on Saturday morning, too, for Kidz Days at RME featuring Chris Dunn. This fun and educational event gives kids a chance to enjoy live music and other performances just for them! Next Thursday, plan to spend your evening basking in blues and rock with Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown.

Raise your glass to raising funds for the German American Heritage Center this Saturday during the SUDS II Beer Tasting Event. With Bier from MUGZ, sausage and potato salad from Jerry's Market, and melodious live music, this tasting is sure to please. Earlier in the day, teacher's are invited to participate in the Teaching Modern Germany Workshop. All educators are welcome and encouraged to attend this FREE event!

Calling all dapper ladies and gentlemen! Join fellow tweeders for a leisurely bike ride along our scenic riverfront in the QC Tweed Ride on Saturday. Starting at the Freight House, the ride proceeds to Credit Island Park for tea, the Village of East Davenport for Lagomarcino's treats, and ends at Mac's Tavern for Bangers and Mash OR Guinness Fish and Chips with a New Belgium Fat Tire Keg. Awards will be presented to Most Dapper Gent, Most Fashionable Lady, Best Vintage Bike, and Best Moustache!
