Blue Velvet (R; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Wednesday, February 12, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Brave the Dark (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

Bring Them Down (R; FilmScene on the Ped Mall) - IMDb listing.

The Brutalist (R; The Last Picture House, FilmScene at the Chauncey) - This flawed work of near-greatness absolutely deserves an audience, and more than a few awards. IMDb listing.

Companion (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, The Last Picture House, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - I absolutely adored this funny, nasty, intensely satisfying shiv to the gut knowing its hook in advance. The mind boggles at how much fun I might've had going in unprepared. IMDb listing.

A Complete Unknown (R, Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Although Timothée Chalamet plays the role with commendable skill, Bob Dylan remains frustratingly uninteresting as a screen protagonist – at least this particular screen protagonist. IMDb listing.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX: Sunday, February 9, 3:30 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force (not rated; Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

DIG! XX (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Sunday, February 9, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Dog Man (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Like its source-material predecessor, 2017's Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, this is is a nonstop barrage of delightful gags, puns, and visual slapstick. IMDb listing.

Dune 1984 (PG-13; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Friday, February 7, 9:30 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Flight Risk (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Labored plotting meets aching exposition meets obvious twists meets junior-high-grade insults meets forced (unseen) political machinations meets retrograde and vaguely racist asides. IMDb listing.

From Ground Zero (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - IMDb listing.

Get Out (R; Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Sunday, February 9, 3:15 p.m.) - So thrillingly scary-funny, and so deeply satisfying, that it might take you hours or days to also recognize Jordan Peele's Oscar winner as one of the angriest genre entertainments ever made. IMDb listing.

Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Thursday, February 13) - IMDb listing.

Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Thursday, February 13) - IMDb listing.

IF (PG; Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

Moana 2 (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas) - It's the exact same animated musical adventure audiences adored eight years ago, only with vaguer threat and weaker songs. IMDb listing.

Mufasa: The Lion King (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Disney never went broke running a good idea into the ground. But I'm really, really wishing it would. IMDb listing.

Mulholland Drive (R; The Last Picture House: Saturday, February 8, 8:15 p.m., and Monday, February 10, 7:45 p.m., FilmScene at the Chauncey: Monday, February 10, and Thursday, February 13, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs (not rated; Putnnam Museum & Science Center) - Like most IMAX docs, this one  tries to do too much in too little a time, but it's never less than interesting, and those mega-screen vistas of Egypt are truly stunning. IMDb listing.

My Bloody Valentine (R; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Saturday, February 8, 10 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

My Life in Ruins (PG-13; Putnam Museum & Science Center: Thursday, Febrjuary 6, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Nickel Boys (PG-13; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - For two hours and 20 minutes, I was utterly enraptured by RaMell Ross' harrowing yet soul-lifting first-person drama, and can't wait to see what its filmmaker does next. IMDb listing.

Nope (R; Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Sunday, February 8, 12:15 p.m.) - Jordan Peele's breathtaking genre-melder is a sci-fi adventure that's also a horror film that's also a raucous comedy that's also an untraditional Western that's also a Hollywood parable that's also a biting commentary that's also a deserved reclamation of Black history. IMDb listing.

Oceans (G; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - The movie's 85 minutes occasionally crawl by as deliberately as its sea-floor denizens, but it's hard to be too disappointed by a film that provides so many extraordinary sights. IMDb listing.

One of Them Days (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - This ticking-clock slapstick is an inarguably inconsequential thing, but it routinely delivers enormous pleasure, as well as continued evidence that Keke Palmer would be a massive big-screen star if Hollywood was still in the business of making funny, inherently meaningless comedies. IMDb listing.

Paddington in Peru (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX: Saturday, February 8, 1 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Presence (R; The Last Picture House) - What a treat to find that, more than a decade after announcing his retirement from films, Steven Soderbergh keeps on giving us presents, among them PresenceIMDb listing.

The Seed of the Sacred Fig (PG-13; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - IMDb listing.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemasa) - It sure looks like Jim Carrey is having a blast in director Jeff Fowler's followup. At the very least, he's providing one. IMDb listing.

Space: The New Frontier (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

Superpower Dogs (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - Daniel Ferguson's edu-doc provides enough globe-trotting action for a James Bond flick, treating us to first-rate training footage and re-created missions in locales ranging from the Canadian Rockies to the Italian coast to a debris-strewn site near New York's Ground Zero. IMDb listing.

T. REX (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

Thandel (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

Valiant One (R; VIP Cinemas) - IMDb listing.

Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - I might've left this edu-doc just as satisfied if it were a silent film, or at least one wholly free of words, given that the 3D sights on display left me less fascinated than thunderstruck. IMDb listing.

Wicked (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) -  Jon M. Chu's musical is truly alive – imaginative and surprising and a little bit nuts, and the tears you shed are suffused with the kind of delirious joy sometimes felt during live theatre. IMDb listing.

Wild Africa (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

Wolf Man (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX) - Director/co-writer Leigh Whannell's newest Blumhouse reboot is the scariest movie of the year … for about seven minutes. IMDb listing.
