To celebrate the release of a project called Sensei of Syllables, the Rock Island-based MC/poet/spoken-word artist Aubs. (with the period) has assembled a huge crew of Quad Cities-and-beyond artists including Equinox[x], Ahzia, Legnd, Taj, Kels, Orlando Coolridge, Apple Tree, Poor Bill, Da Round Hero, and Sage the 64th Wonder at Rozz-Tox on January 25.

A beloved jazz, swing, and Americana ensemble whose latest album Beasts of Burgundy inspired PopMatters to rave “There's no doubt that the band's musical chops have only improved over its lifetime,” Squirrel Nut Zippers takes the stage at Davenport's Redstone Room on January 29, with Americana Highways adding that the group's most recent recording “displays a uniquely American gumbo of influence in its amalgamation of New Orleans style.”

A pair of signature 1980s bands still going strong in the 2020s bring their thunderous rock power to the Rhythm City Casino Resort Event Center on January 16, with the Davenport venue hosting one unforgettable night with the Billboard sensations and glam-metal icons Skid Row and Slaughter performing hits such as “18 & Life,” “I Remember You,” “Up All Night,” and “Fly to the Angels.”

Praised by Bandwagon magazine for their “brilliant” sound “that few other modern-day bands can offer,” the blues talents of the Kris Lager Band return to Davenport's Redstone Room on January 17, with Grateful Web telling prospective concert-goers: “Be prepared to dance, clap, and sing along with a fun and interactive show laced with load-tested songs and contagious grooves.”

Rozz-Tox continues its Northern Parallels series of curated house and techno events with a January 17 visit from veteran producer FBK, who performs live alongside DJ sets from residents Mike Derer and Higgy.

Following hugely successful Adler Theatre presentations of the first three Harry Potter movies with their iconic scores performed live, the talents of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra now set their sights, and their instruments, on Disney/Pixar's Oscar-winning smash Coco, with the adored animated film enjoying a soaring QCSO accompaniment for two performances on January 18.

Continuing a three-night program of events under the umbrella of the Midwest Electronic Creator’s Conference, Rozz-Tox hosts a bill of deep-space techno/house and left-field beat exploration with a stellar January 18 lineup that features Golden Donna, Shen, Idpyramid, and K1NG SUPR3M3.

Appearing in the ensemble's first performances as guests in Polyrhythms' Third Sunday Jazz Workshop and Matinée Series, Mike Conrad & the Iowa Jazz Composers Orchestra will take the stage at Davenport's Redstone Room on January 19, playing from a jazz repertoire comprised solely of works by gifted Iowa-based composers.

As time drags closer to the inevitable apocalypse and the modern world continues to develop in grisly and unforeseen ways, we can find some comfort in the fact that there is now more music available than ever before.
