Outdoor adventurers are again invited to paddle, mountain bike, and run their way to the top in the eagerly anticipated, 15th-annual Taming of the Slough Mississippi River Adventure Triathlon, the River Action-sponsored test of endurance set to take place on Saturday, September 12.

Lauded by the New York Times as an “excellent company” whose “versatile cast ably draws on West African dance and Alvin Ailey-esque motions of struggle and striving,” the gifted Washington D.C. performers of Step Afrika! deliver a world premiere in the virtual presentation Stono a movement- and music-filled September 9 event hosted by Iowa City's Hancher Auditorium, and one sure to demonstrate why DC Theatre Scene writes of the ensemble, “Arrive in anticipation. Leave in exhilaration.”

A beloved local tradition designed specifically for seniors continues into its 21st year when River Action, on September 3 and 4, hosts two days worth of self-guided Senior Citizen Golf Cart Tours, with six separate tours available for those enthusiastic to travel riverfront trails on both sides of the Mississippi, and those wishing to gain knowledge on the past, present, and future of the Quad Cities' mighty river.

Delivering their first public performances since the March shutdown of theatres nationwide, the professional dancers of Ballet Quad Cities return with three August 30 presentations of Ballet on the Lawn, a collection of upbeat, genre-spanning dance vignettes being performed outdoors at the Davenport venue The Outing Club.

Baby Yoda fans of all ages are invited to bring their knowledge of the adorable green imp – and the sci-fi series he appears in – to Crawford Brew Works on August 29, with the Bettendorf venue providing competition, prizes, and Star Wars ephemera galore in its trivia afternoon themed on the popular and acclaimed Disney+ sensation The Mandalorian.

Although there are changes in store for this year's event, River Action's 11th-annual celebration of paddle sports Floatzilla is still set for launch on August 15, with participants and spectators gathering at Rock Island's Sunset Park in their kayaks and canoes to enjoy a day in the great outdoors while maintaining safe social-distancing measures.
