CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA –  Friday, April 6, 2018 -  Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today hosted a youth summit in Cedar Rapids which focused on the federal judiciary and its impact on daily lives. Students and educators from more than 20 schools throughout Northeast Iowa were in attendance to hear from and ask questions of Grassley, as well as Judge Michael J. Melloy of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and Chief Judge John Jarvey of the U.S.

SPRINGFIELD (Apr. 6, 2018) — Governor Bruce Rauner today signed legislation that makes it easier for teachers with out-of-state credentials to get licensed in Illinois. SB 863 is effective immediately.

“Our state needs to have ready access to qualified teachers,” Rauner said. “This law will help our schools meet shortages and fill other academic needs.”

Cindy Cavanagh and Teresa Wyant from Mississippi Bend AEA have been selected for the Innovative Creator Award by Iowa’s Area Education Agencies. The team received the award during a presentation at the AEA Boards of Directors’ Conference on April 5. This is the second year for the awards and it is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate outstanding candidates for their contributions to education and the AEA system.

Privately funded program to assist more than 9,800 students in learning about Illinois’ natural heritage

SPRINGFIELD (Apr. 5, 2018) — Gov. Bruce Rauner and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today announced $107,000 in Biodiversity Field Trip Grants that make it possible for 9,800 students from 35 counties to visit areas of the state where they can learn about nature and conservation this summer.
