CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA (October 29, 2019) — Joseph Field of Bettendorf, Iowa, is one of the nearly 400 cadets and students recognized for their academic achievements during the spring 2019 semester. Field also counts among the 860 cadets and students who were named to the Dean's List.

 

IOWA CITY, IOWA (October 25, 2019) — Earlier this fall, The University of Iowa Orchestra performed a concert exclusively for fourth-grade students in the Iowa City Community School District. The annual event, staged in the UI's Voxman Music Building, attracted more than 1,400 students.

Teachers and staff of the Iowa City Community School District Foundation, the organizers of the "Symphony Goes to School" program said the lesson of the day is bigger than music.

MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS (October 24, 2019) — Monmouth College computer-science professor Logan Mayfield has been named the College's first Commander GE Boone Endowed Professor in the Computational Sciences.

Established earlier this year by a gift from Monmouth graduate Mark Kopinski ('79) and his wife, Deborah, the Commander GE Boone Endowed Professorship in the Computational Sciences supports the work of a faculty member in mathematics, computer-science, data-science, and statistics.

Sierra Long of Muscatine (52761), who is studying Animal Science, received the World Food Prize Scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year.

MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS (October 19, 2019) — Author and scholar Gary Dorrien will deliver Monmouth's Thompson Lecture on October 24.

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 16, 2019) — Thousands of students will vote for their preferred candidates for President,  Senate, and House during Secretary of State Paul Pate’s Iowa Youth Straw Poll on Tuesday, October 29. This will be the first Iowa Youth Straw Poll since a change in Iowa law that allows 17-year-olds to register to vote and participate in primary elections. Next year, they can vote in the Iowa Caucuses and the June primary if they will be 18 by November 3, 2020.
