Iowa Attorney General’s Office Concludes Black Hawk and Bremer County Deputies Justified in Officer Involved Death

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 12, 2025) — In a report issued today, the Iowa Attorney General’s Office has concluded that two Black Hawk County deputies and one Bremer County deputy were legally justified in their use of force on December 15, 2024, that contributed to Willie Earl Washington’s death.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 11, 2025) — Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has announced an arrest for the murder of Barbara Lenz, who disappeared in 1989. This is the first arrest made in a case that the Iowa Cold Case unit has helped investigate. AG Bird launched the statewide unit in July 2024.
