DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 25, 2019) — Will your chef skills impress the judges? Teens (ages 11-19) are invited to compete in the Teen Master Foodie Challenge on March 16 at 2PM at Fairmount (3000 N Fairmount St). Teens can enter as individuals or in teams of two in a mystery ingredient challenge where everyone is given 30 minutes to create a delicious dish using only provided ingredients and utensils.

As February draws to an end, rumors abound that we're about to see Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Or at least that someone — namely, newly confirmed US Attorney General William Barr — is about to see that report. The rest of us, maybe not so much.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 22, 2019) Public Works participated in this afternoon’s National Weather Service Spring Flood Outlook Briefing. There is a 95% chance the city will see moderate flooding (15 to 18ft), and a 50% chance for major flooding (above 18 ft) this spring.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 22, 2019) — Davenport Fire crews were dispatched shortly before 8:30PM Thursday to a structure fire in the 500 block of E 7th Street and upon arrival reported fire on the second floor of the home.

DES MOINES, IOWA (February 21, 2019) — Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan will headline the Iowa Association of Business and Industry's (ABI's) 2019 Taking Care of Business Conference, June 4-6, in Ames. The conference is expected to draw 1,000 business leaders to venues including Hilton Coliseum and the Sukup End Zone Club at Jack Trice Stadium.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 20, 2019) — On Tuesday, February 19, Davenport Fire crews were dispatched to the 900 block of West Second Street shortly after 8:30PM for a structure fire. When crews arrived, smoke was coming from the rear of the building where the door was on fire. Chief Jim Morris says this is a vacant property; however, there were remnants of individuals living in it. The structure received minor damage. No injuries were reported.

WASHINGTON DC (February 20, 2019) — In a unanimous ruling that is expected to curb attempts by local and state governments to increase their revenue by seizing private property using excessive, arbitrary asset forfeiture laws, a unanimous US Supreme Court has ruled in Timbs v State of Indiana that state governments must abide by the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on the imposition of “excessive fines” for criminal offenses.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 20, 2019) — West Second Street is being closed between Gaines and Warren Streets for a water main break.  Brown Street is closed at 3rd St and at River Drive.

Individuals can access the Centennial bridge using 3rd or 4th Street to Gaines. Repairs are estimated to be complete, and the roads re-opened sometime Friday.
