(Quad Cities) -Red White & Boom is excited to announce that despite flooding, the show will go on in a big way! The fireworks will now be shot from the Centennial Bridge on July 3rd. High water and a fast current prevented the typical use of a barge for the show; however, the fireworks will now still be visible far and wide. The last time the bridge was utilized for fireworks was for the Millennium celebration.

In Davenport, the primary viewing area, activities and vendors will be located on 2nd Street between Ripley and Main Streets. If river levels are low enough, additional viewing areas may also be available between River Drive and 2nd Street.  All activities on the Rock Island side will remain at Schwiebert Riverfront Park.

Events for Red White and Boom will open at 6 p.m. in downtown Davenport and Schwiebert Park in Rock Island. Both sites will have live music, thank you notes for our troops, food, beer gardens, and of course, the largest fireworks display on the Mississippi River beginning at 9:30 p.m.

This year, Red, White & Boom will feature a fireworks display that is choreographed to a music soundtrack. A computer controlled launching system will be used to pair specific types and colors of fireworks to be fired during the musical broadcast. This allows the fireworks to be launched at specific times to accentuate the musical dynamics and feel throughout the display.

Both Davenport and Rock Island will have ceremonies with a proclamation read by the Quad Cities mayors highlighting the Rock Island Arsenal and those who are serving, or have served, in our military. The public is also encouraged to visit the "Hooah! Quad Cities" website to learn more about resources for military members, veterans, and military families. The website is also a great resource for finding out more about how we can support our soldiers.

Red,White & Boom is generously hosted by Genesis Health System and Riverboat Development Authority.

This event would not be possible without all of our additional sponsors including St. Ambrose University, Wells Fargo, Iowa American Water, Quad-City Times, KWQC TV-6, B100, Lunardi's Italian Restaurant, Acsentra Credit Union, City of Davenport, City of Rock Island, Downtown Davenport Partnership, Davenport Parks & Recreation Dept, Rock Island Parks & Recreation, Davenport Levee Improvement Commission, Nerdwerx, and Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce.

Supporting sponsors include Mutual Medical Inc, Platinum Information Services, Riverview Dental, LPI Loans, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, Happy Joes, Mississippi Fleeting LLC, and Davenport Fire & Police Departments.

Weekly Events Header
Hello!
With July quickly approaching, fireworks, food, and fun activities are right around the corner! Help celebrate America's birthday during Red, White, and Boom! on Wednesday, July 3rd. Don't miss the fireworks and an evening of live music, family activities, and a chance to honor our Armed Forces on both sides of the river.
With the unpredictability of the Mississippi River, the Davenport activities are moving from LeClaire Park to 2nd Street between Ripley and Main streets. All activities on the Rock Island side will remain at Schweibert Park.  The high water and quick current means we have to relocate the fireworks from the river to land, too.   Stay tuned for more details on the fireworks soon.
Next week, the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival kicks off on July 4th and due to the river levels, the three-day festival will also move from LeClaire Park to 2nd street from Ripley St. to Brady St. in Downtown Davenport. Additional stages and workshops will be housed in the river Music Experience and the RME courtyard. Show your love for blues at one of the finest fests in the country and catch Kenny Wayne Shepherd along with many more amazing bands!  The show will go on!
The co-founder of the legendary American rock band Little Feat will make an appearance at the River Music Experience this weekend! Hear a live performance from Bill Payne while viewing his photography during Tracing Footsteps: A Journal of Music, Photography, and Tales of the Road. Drummer Gabe Ford will also be there, making this a night you won't want to miss. Tonight, spend An Evening with the Portland Cello Project and prepare to be wowed by a mix of genres and blurred musical lines.
What's more beautiful than the art of giving? Participate in a growing international movement when the Figge hosts the Papergirl Project Workshop on Sunday. If you're looking for a fun, informal way to interact with fellow community members, head to the Figge tonight for PechaKucha Night and share ideas or interests ranging from recent travels to various hobbies. A new exhibition also opens this weekend. See art composed of material gathered right here in the Quad Cities in the No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service Exhibition.

With the end of June upon us, it's time for another Final Friday! Bucktown presents an Education Celebration for this month's Final Friday series celebrating the art of area students. Enjoy this special exhibit with hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and more! On your way over, stop at Major Art & Hobby to check out their in-store Fourth of July specials! Gallery 114 will also host a Grand Opening and Birthday Bash on Saturday with live music by Movers and Shakers!
If you haven't picked them already, be sure to purchase your tickets for Grace Potter & the Nocturnals before they perform at the Adler Theater July 13th! This week, get your music fix this at RME's Live at 5 featuring Jason Carl & The Whole D Band. Make sure you stay to vote for this week's Rock Wars winner when The Atlantis Dialogue and Dynoride face off, too.
See you downtown!

DAVENPORT, IA (June 27, 2013) - Senior Star at Elmore Place is pleased to host an evening with General Anthony Zinni, USMC (ret.), on Wednesday, July 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on its campus at 4500 Elmore Avenue, Davenport.  Appetizers will be provided.

General Zinni's military service has taken him to more than 70 countries and includes deployments to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Western Pacific, Northern Europe and Korea.  His operational experience included two tours in Vietnam, where he was severely wounded.  He held numerous command and staff assignments that included platoon, company, battalion, regimental, Marine Expeditionary Unit and Marine Expeditionary Force command.  General Zinni received 23 personal military awards and holds 37 unit, service and campaign awards.

Since his retirement from the United States Marine Corps in 2000, General Zinni has continued to serve his country as the U.S. Peace Envoy in the Middle East and as the Special Envoy to the Henri Dunant Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (Indonesian, Philippines and Sudan peace effort).  He also serves on the boards of several corporations, universities and other organizations, offering insight gained from his 40 years of experience as a proven and decorated leader in the United States military.

Beyond his military service and corporate leadership roles, General Zinni has authored three best selling books including one he co-authored with Tom Clancy, entitled Battle Ready.

"We are excited to continue offering interesting speakers and topics for residents who live in the greater Davenport community," said Kaylan Hamerlinck, assistant executive director of Senior Star at Elmore Place.  "General Zinni is an inspiration to patriotism.  Hosting him at Elmore Place will not only be a treat for our residents, especially our veterans, but also another way of supporting and enhancing our involvement as a member of this wonderful community in which we are surrounded.  We hope many people will join us at Elmore Place on July 10."

Registration is requested by July 9.  To reserve space, please call 563.359.0100.  The first 20 people who RSVP will receive a free signed copy of one of General Zinni's books.
