Davenport, IA: Stuff Etc, located at 3568 N. Brady St. is holding a donation drive this week for the local non-profit organization, King's Harvest.

King's Harvest is a shelter serving the homeless and others in downtown Davenport. The shelter is running short on new toys to distribute at their annual Christmas party for the homeless this coming weekend. Stuff Etc is stepping in to help out King's Harvest this holiday season by setting up a donation box at their store and spreading the word on their social media outlets on how people can help. King's Harvest needs to meet the needs of more than 250 local families that would otherwise not be able to provide gifts for their children this Christmas. People are encouraged to donate new, packaged toys at their local Stuff Etc in Davenport.

"We have a very short window in which to collect these items for King's Harvest," says Jesse Simpson, store manager at Stuff Etc. "We need to get the word out as quickly as possible and are relying on the generosity of Quad Cities residents to fill this need."

Stuff Etc will be accepting donations until this Thursday, December 19th To show their appreciation and help drive participation, Stuff Etc will offer a 20% off one item coupon for each person who brings in a new, packaged toy for donation.

Stuff Etc. is the largest consignment store in Iowa, with stores in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Iowa City, Davenport and Ankeny. Known for their quality and variety, they work with more than 70,000 consignors to provide a truly unique local buying experience.

Buffalo Bill Museum Expansion "It's an exciting time in the museum's almost 57 year history," said Robert Schiffke, Executive Director of the Buffalo Bill Museum & River Pilots' Pier, "as we start another expansion of our facility."  The women who were members of the LeClaire Women's Club, who founded the museum in 1957, wouldn't recognize the building today, but they would see many of the items first exhibited in its original location at 114 North Cody Road, LeClaire. Included will be an Archival Workroom allowing careful access to the museum's extensive print and photograph collection, a "hands on" classroom for children visiting the museum, and exhibits that highlight LeClaire's role in the region's economic growth through its shipyards, button factories, and river pilots who opened the region to river commerce.  An architectural drawing of the expansion is available for public view at the museum during regular hours, and donations towards the expansion are being accepted. "We appreciate the support of the community in this project, and donations of artifacts and funds are always welcome.  We are truly a community institution, and volunteers have grown the museum into the LeClaire landmark that it is today" said Connie Curlott, President of the Board of Directors.  The museum is open 9am - 4pm, Mon.-Saturday; 12noon - 4pm, Sundays. EVENT: Saturday, DECEMBER 14, 2013, at 11:00 am

On Saturday, December 14, Moms will gather at over 50 events in more than 35 states to honor the victims of the tragedy in Newtown and the thousands of Americans lost to gun violence every year. All events will include a communal bell-ringing to remember the victims and to show our resolve to never again be silent about gun violence. These events are co-sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

In Des Moines, we'll hear from Rev. David P. Sickelka, Rev. Cheryl Thomas, Calvetta Berry of Mother's Against Violence, Rick Miller of OFA and Mayor Frank Cownie about the need to reduce gun violence. Our local sponsors, with whom we share a common goal of gun violence prevention, include The Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Organizing for Action, American Friends Service Committee, Mother's Against Violence, The Ecumenical Peace Committee, The Methodist Federation for Social Action and Iowans for Gun Safety.  We'll ring bells loudly, honoring the first anniversary of the Sandy Hook tragedy with a promise to continue making noise on gun reform until change comes.

About Mayors Against Illegal Guns

Since its creation in April 2006, Mayors Against Illegal Guns has grown from 15 members to more than 1,000 mayors from across the country. We have more than 1.5 million grassroots supporters, making us the largest gun violence prevention advocacy organization in the country.  The bipartisan coalition, co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, has united the nation's mayors around these common goals: protecting communities by holding gun offenders accountable; demanding access to crime gun trace data that is critical to law enforcement efforts to combat gun trafficking; and working with legislators to fix weaknesses and loopholes in the law that make it far too easy for criminals and other dangerous people to get guns.  Learn more at www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org
